PoetryPlease would like to remind those who would like to compete in the Epic Poetry Contest that the deadline is fast approaching. You only have until May 31, 2009 to submit your entry. Just to recap, here are the rules:

Contest Rules

1. All members of DeviantArt, except for PoetryPlease staff members and the contest judges, may submit a poem for consideration.
2. All entries, except for those poems submitted to last year’s Epyllion Contest, must be new entries submitted no earlier than January 1, 2009.
3. You must be willing to have your poem published at the contest’s completion.
4. No entry may be submitted officially to PoetryPlease before May 1, 2009. After this time, when you are ready to submit your entry, please send a note to PoetryPlease with “Epic Entry” in the subject and a link to the deviation in the body.
5. All entries must be received by 8pm EST on May 31, 2009.
6. All entries must be at least 1000 words and written in some kind of fixed form (ie. a focus on the poem's oral quality).

Please make sure you've paid attention to the rules before you submit your entry. PoetryPlease will not inform you if you've missed something until it is too late as we will not be looking at the entries until after the deadline passes. Similarly, the judges will not be determining until after the deadline has past if your entry fits the criteria they are looking for in an Epic. Some of the elements your entry will be judged on include: character, setting, story, form (meter and/or rhyme), and originality. Please keep all this in mind. If you're unsure, the contest deviation holds a list of the characteristics they'll be looking for.

It's an epic poem. Like the odyssey. They're usually quite long.

Whats the deal with the poems being "atleast a 1000 words"?! The best poets such as Yeats, Kavanagh, Plath and so on mostly ever wrote sonnets, octets even... :(
