i want to write the grey things-- the underneath of bridges and floors of public bathrooms, and predawn— nightmistakes hanging on and lingering, fingering through dull hair and resting in wasted breaths, spilling from streets, greeting clenched teeth and cold hands and numb feet-- the hollow taste of the next morning--the ashes you swallowed to look glamorous, and the hair of everyone in every photograph before 1840-- the smell of buses pulling passengers to more promising places-- faded faces turned restless toward the flat-rain sky, spaces between the railroad ties, and dusty dreams deferred.

my howls are silent
I, too, see the best minds of my generation destroyed by madness. We are decomposing too early, our souls dying before our bodies can catch up. We are silently ravenous, a quiet craze in our hearts, not quite the same as your generation, Ginsberg. We do not shriek "Holy! Holy! Holy!" as we burn. We drown soundlessly. The overeducated, proud products of postmodernism dissolve in a lukewarm soup of ennui, bored balloons filled with hubris rather than helium. Fragile dolls with flaking bones and hair and skin like flowers wilting, weighed down by indomitable wills and insecurities... these plastic girls starve to death and diabetes in the car b

You didn't dare.
She smiled, but it was fake. She laughed, but she's about to break. She reached out, but no one came, tried to fake it, but the pain stayed the same. This girl, she called to you, but you didn't care. Something told you to help, but you didn't dare. What would the others say? The ones who called her a freak. They may taunt or shun you, so you choose not to speak. Then she decides to leave. Because no one wants her here. You'll never see her cry. She'll never shed another tear.

Tetractys should express one complete thought using 20
syllables. They can be written with more than one verse but
each subsequent verse must invert the syllable count. There is
no limit to the number of verses. The structure is:
line 1 - 1 syllable
line 2 - 2 syllables
line 3 - 3 syllables
line 4 - 4 syllables
line 5 - 10 syllables
