Welcome to Poetic Forms, a community where people who want to learn about and write with traditional and modern poetic forms can do so together.
It was created by alenia on May 22, 2003.

Form of the Month
The form of the month for September is the exciting and challenging palindrome. From now on, please only send one submission to be considered for our form of the month contest.
If you wish suggestions or help in crafting your poem, there's a thread concerning this in our forum.
Please read this informative write-up www.deviantart.com/deviation/8… pamelaski
Please send links to your newly written palindrome poems by NOTE and they will be added to the journal.

Forum & Shoutbox
Poetic Forms now has it's own shoutbox and forum, all self-contained. I know that it was difficult to sometimes get onto the proboards forum, at least I had trouble constantly. Now that we are paying members, we can have our own forum right on site.
This is a great place to foster our community spirit, as well as workshop pieces of poetry.
From the poll, it seems like many of us want contests. We want a bit of competition. So, let's try something new for the group.
Word contests will consist of you being given a word, or a few words creating a "concept" or "theme", and you'll choose any form of poetry and write something that goes with the word/s.
Word for 9/10-9/24 Sacrifice
Form contests will also run each month, and they will be done with the form of the month.
At the end of the contest period, we as a group will vote for the poem we feel is the best example of the form and theme. The winners will be featured on our journal AND the shoutboard.
Our old contest will still run for September-- it's a poem, written in any form or style -- but the topic of the poem must be something to do with the hidden joys of summer.
Please NOTE me with the link to your submissions, and I'll add it to the journal.
(In other words, submit your poems as a deviation, before submitting it to the contest.)
Prize for the old contest: 3 month subscription to DA and a feature in the journal.

If you sent me the poem in a note, without a link to the deviation, I'm still waiting on the link.
If you want to do an official write-up on any forms with a specified rhyme scheme, meter, and/or repetition, please note poetic-forms. Suggestions on forms for others to write up are welcome.
The write-ups should contain a brief history of the form, perhaps an example, and a full description of the rhyme scheme, meter, common themes, etc. You will receive a next to your name for accepted form write-ups.

To join this community, please send a NOTE (as opposed to writing a devious comment) with the subject "Joining". If you have poems in your gallery in a certain poetic form already, please link them in your note and state what type of poem it is.
