Lanik's Journey Part 6Chapter 5 Pebbles scattered against the road edges and occasionally lodged in Laniks sandals as she ran. She continued her staggering pace anyhow as she caught sight of the mines entrance. Lanik had never actually been there, despite how intently shed listened when it came up in conversation. Also, despite the fact that her entire escape plan hinged on using this mine, she hadnt even thought to sneak in before now to see if what she needed was even here. It has to be, her thoughts rattled around in her head in a panic. She crashed into the gates that locked the mineshafts entrance closed. The gravel had made it impossible to stop when the trail had sloped down drastically. A cut on her leg already began to drip onto the ground near the railing that had caused it. She covered her mouth to quiet her breathing while she thought and eased the burning in her lungs.
Lanik's Journey: ProloguePrologue Lanik leaned against the ornate railing of the highest terrace of the mage city and looked down at the sheer drop over the edge while her lungs burned inside her chest. Clouds rolled beneath out over the edge and all around them. The upper city was a half mile high; the drop was nothing less then fatal. Today you could barely see from one row of buildings to another, let alone to the bottom of the drop off. She glanced back at Tohka where he had sat on the ground, even more winded then her. He looked up at her and removed his glasses which had fogged up with all their running. His normally well-groomed hair was falling into his face and flying all about his head down to his shoulders.
