Inostrancevia alexandri caught in an ambush of a young Vivaxosaurus (previously Dicynodon) trautsholdi

come to drink.

This drawing is a deep reworking of my old drawing. Altered the geometry of the muzzle. Added color and hair. Made the version with the cleaned and exposed fangs.

Dimetrodon
In my picture "shark Hunter", I planned to draw two dimetrodon, but the second did not fit into the landscape. Left only the sketch of pelycosaur.

Shark hunter

 Shark hunter.

286 m. l. the beginning of the Permian period. Early in the morning, when the disc of the sun rose above the crowns of giant horsetails, a large male of Dimetrodon limbatus set his sail to the sun's rays, warming up after a cool night. The sun spread warm over the reptile's body, charging it with the energy of light. He was the largest predator of the time. Its length was 3 meters and it had no equal in nature. This reptile was at the top of the food chain. Dimetrodon the food was varied and consisted of large herbivorous reptiles like Edaphosaurus and Diadectes, and numerous amphibians Diplocaulus. But in the dry season, nature interfered in this order of things and then the ferocious predator turned into a skilled angler. When the river has been getting shallower, herds of herbivorous reptiles went to the full-flowing lower reaches, where profusely grew the greens, not yet touched by heat. And here, in the upper reaches, there were only amphibians and fish. That they then dimetrodon and hunted.

Half an hour later, the blood warmed up and filled with energy. The body's metabolism has increased and dimetrodon immediately felt the hunger. Lizard slowly went to the place of hunting. Dried up the river laid bare, driftwood and silt sediments, which are artfully concealed by the water. Once a continuous stream shoaled into the channel. In such ducts and lived prey " hunter with a sail." Stopping at the very edge of the water, he began to observe its surface. Turning his head from side to side, as if the lizard looked closely, trying not to miss anything. It took some time before the water appeared light ripples. Dimetrodon muscles tensed. A sharp spike of the shark Pleuracanthus appeared on the surface. Disappear again. Then the splash of the water there was the snout of a shark caught with a small amphibian in his mouth. Without wasting time dimetrodon rushed into the water. The shark tried to Dodge, but due to the fact that it was small, this maneuver failed, and on her tail closed in the teeth of dimetrodon. Catching prey, the lizard hurried to the shore, dragging the fish twisting through the muddy mud. She had to make haste to kill otherwise it could sharp spine located on your back, hurt dimetrodon. Pulling a shark ashore, hunter honed over the years by the movement of the crushed front paw prey, bite her head off and broke the tenon. Waiting until the last convulsions of the victim subsides, dimetrodon started the meal.
