[Battles and Tournaments] (CLOSED)

Journal Entry: Sun May 4, 2014, 6:24 PM
"The freedom to play"

This Service is currently closed

You've been training your pokemon for quite a while now and both of you feel that you're ready to take on the world. Okay, maybe not the world but a friendly neighborhood sparring match wouldn't hurt! You're looking to challenge others to a battle and need to know where to start. This is the place to learn! Sign up to the Nation's Pokemon League and begin your rise to stardom!

..::Welcome to the Battle Station!::..

Pokemon battles have been a signature of the pokemon world as far back as it's starting days. It's a test of courage, wisdom, and faith. Above all those traits however lies the key to any battle; Strength. A pokemon with good current attack is bound to do well here. If you'd like to learn about how to start a battle, please read the following information in detail before sending your note!

***This system is currently in BETA and is not the finalized version. Please expect some errors and changes to happen over the course of time. There is a good chance that this system will be completely revamped in the future to suit the group's needs better. Should an error happen during the rolling of your results, please politely inform the moderator in charge of your battle and be reasonable. It will be corrected promptly. ***

..::The Basics::..

To participate in battles, you'll first need to purchase a Battle Pass from the Delibird Market!

You can only submit one battle a week!

All Pkmnation battles require art/literature in order to participate.

The minimum requirement for all artwork is  a single flat color full body with background or more.

The minimum requirement for all written work is 800 words or more.

If you wish to animate the battle it will still require a flat color full body and background or more.

At no point and time will sketches be accepted for a battle.

Currently collaborations between opponents are not being accepted.

A battle in Pkmnation can only happen one on one. This means each trainer must choose the pokemon they'd like to battle with from their own ranch before the note is sent in to begin the match.

You cannot battle your own pokemon. Each participant must be from a different ranch.

Battles can only happen with dual (two) type pokemon or single type pokemon. This does NOT mean triple types cannot participate, it does mean however that you are required to choose two of the three types your pokemon has. List the chosen types in the note form given below!

Your pokemon can only use one move during the battle. It must be a move you already taught your pokemon. You cannot teach them a move mid-fight.

Abilities do not influence the battle as they are not a required piece of information.

Okay you have your pokemon chosen and you know what you're going to do! To start a battle with a willing participant, one of the participants must submit a  note to the group with the following form of information;

Pokemon 1:
Pokemon: Link the reference here!
Level: Their current level.
Current BA: Their current BA.
Type(s): Their one or two types.
Owner: Your username

Pokemon 2:
Pokemon: Link the reference here!
Level: Their current level.
Current BA: Their current BA.
Type(s): Their one or two types.
Owner: Opponent's username

A moderator will send out a note to both participants when the battle has started! The note will contain information on which pokemon you're battling against and the deadline for your battle submission!

Generally a deadline will be one week after your battle note is accepted.

From this point, how the battle progresses is left up to you! Illustrate/write how your pokemon attack their opponent. You only get one move to use during this battle! So choose wisely!

Once you've finished your submission, submit it to the Battles folder of the group and list in the description the following information;

Link your pokemon and your opponent's pokemon refs!
List the types your pokemon is (or the ones you have chosen if triple typed)
Bold the move you've chosen to use!

A moderator will review the battle and calculate the damage done to each opponent. The most damage done will earn the pokemon the win!

..::Prizes:::..

At the end of the week when all is said and done, prizes for those who have participated in battles will receive their prizes.

The winner of a battle will receive 200 points.

The loser of a battle will receive 100 points.

Both participants will also receive one of the following randomized items: TM, Jumble Berry, Upgrade Stone, Evolutionary Stone, or a Random Egg!

If you have any questions regarding the battling system, feel free to comment below! Best of luck to all competitors!

what would happen if I used a move like attract or double team durring the battle? are non-damage-dealing moves allowed?

Non-damaging moves would have no effect and therefore be a loss.

I'm liking the battle system, just remembered I wanted to read though the journal and all that.

But, when will battles be open again? If you all don't mind me asking.

At the moment we're delaying to make sure we have enough hands to focus on the system as we work through it. The battling will most likely start up again after we have added onto our mod team.

Hmm, so the system where members didn't know which pokemon they were gonna battle against (each participant sending their own note) is no longer in place? I kinda feel this might make the choice of a pokemon difficult, because both participants basically have to agree on who they're gonna fight with, and since all info about the pokemon, including moves, is public, they'll know who wins before they even send the note.

It'll be more of a challenge then, you'll have to play it smart in order to win. :D

We found the previous system to be flawed in regards to the randomization and chose to remove it. Until further notice, we'll be sticking with this method. Things may change in the future however depending on how pokemon battling changes.

Alright then, I'll be watching with interest as battles start happening! I think I'll wait until I understand a bit better before I start battling again myself, as this new system is quite different from the previous one. :)

ok, I have a really dumb question. I like the idea of winning points from battling, but it seems like if everyone in the nation starts battling, it will become very expensive for the nation to keep up on.  is there going to be an increase in other expenses at the delibird market with the coming of the new dawn of battling?

Hey Kordack!

We did the math for it and the average number of battle expected yearly in comparison to the amount of points Nation already earns yearly is significantly smaller. We also factored in other contests that would pay out points and we're expecting to be well within our budget and still have points to burn. Battling however is still in BETA so if this is compromised and needs changing, we have the means to do so. :D

So excited to have battles come back! I liked the last system well enough and am excited to test out this new one ^^

I have a question about attacks. Since Pokemon battles consist of many moves being used during battle, would it be alright if *mainly for a story* the opponents use more than one move, but the participants choose only one of those moves to be judged for the battle?

ConfirmedStitches Featured By Owner Aug 24, 2016
As long as it's clear and concise which is the move you'll be using in the battle, I don't see why not :D

both you and the opponent send in a battle note, or only one of us send in a note with both our informations??
and the move we choose, dose that have to be the move we see in the battle picture?
last question, are we allowed to teach a move doing the battle?

(sorry for all these questions) u.u

:iconconfirmedstitches:
ConfirmedStitches Featured By Owner Aug 22, 2016
Only one person sends in the note with both information! Makes it less confusing. Like breeding notes. xD

The move you choose does have to be the one you put in the picture, yes.

It has to be a move you already taught your mon.

Hope that clarifies!

(no, no, the questions help!)

How would a move like perish song work?
Normally perish song causes the opponent to faint in three moves.

:iconkrisander:
Krisander Featured By Owner Feb 4, 2015
the system is changing so this might not be true when battles open again, but currently moves are judged by type and not what they do. that is to say, perish song would be treated as a normal-type move for battle calculations the same as growl or tackle or even giga impact.

Hello! I was wondering if there was maybe an estimate of when battles will be reopened? I don't wanna seem impatient or anything, just wondering D:
alsoooo, i was wondering if status moves are calculated the same as normal moves? like if a move such as string shot would be calculated as the same as another bug move such as silver wind? thanks!

Hello~ There is currently no estimate for when the Battle Station will be reopened. But at the moment, status moves are calculated as moves since battles are calculated using types. I'm unaware if this will change though. Sorry that I can't be much help on the estimate. D:

Hmm, I guess it hasn't been asked yet but--

a) I guess out of curiousity's sake, what happens if you use a move your opponent is immune to by type? Like normal on a ghost type. I guess it COULD happen you pick a fighting type and they pick a ghost type and your fighting pokemon doesn't KNOW any moves non normal or fighting typed...

b) moves that do no damage are calculated the same way in a battle-- by type, not by what the move does? So say you use Encore as your move, it's a normal typed move when battle calculating?

Hello there~ Sorry for such a long delay. I'm unsure if any of these answers will change once the Battle Station is revamped (I don't think so since these are important factors), so:
a.) If a move is used that wouldn't work at all on the type chart, the person who used the move would gain 0pts toward their score for the Move used. They would still gain the points for BA and Level but would lose a nice chunk that could be anywhere from 25-100 or so points depending.

b.) Moves are currently calculated by their type and not what they do. So one could use Encore or Rain Dance and it would count. How much it does for you will depend on the calculations, however.

Hope this helps! ^^

Can our submissions for Contests be in a comic form? Or must it be one image? Also I Know someone else asked this but how many moves can be used in each round? For example this beauty round going on now... Am I able to combine say 2 moves to make the effects (much like the characters do in the anime)?

comics are allowed and you can use as many moves as you would like in the image- but only one at a time ((not multiple moves all at once)). just remember that if you make it too busy that might actually count for less points

Awesome thank you. I had a few ideas and wanted to be sure they were OK before going ahead with it. I don't think ill be to busy though. Im assuming we cant teach them a new move in the process? Ill probably just avoid that extra bit but thanks so much for the answer. :3

of course you can teach them a new move!! as long as you use a jumble berry/tm or have two full bodies it totally counts as them learning a new one ;)

In a Contest a pokemon using moves to show it'd self off would they use 2 moves or can we use 3 or maybe 4 moves at once?

a pokemon can only use one move at a time, but perhaps you could do creative combinations to make a nice sequence where the first one sets up for the second and then third, etc. ;)

Also do the moves matter or just the art (like how some moves had a beauty factor and such)

:iconkrisander:

the art is what matters, as we will not be checking moves to see what category they fall under. be creative!! you can use any move that your pokemon knows ((or even teach it a new one))

Question: If a pokemon has a 6x weakness (lets say a psychic/grass/dark fusion cacturne) and that weakness's move is used on it (so bug type), would that be +++super effective or would you only count it as ++super effective?
Reply
:iconshaythulhu:
Shaythulhu Featured By Owner Jan 2, 2015  Hobbyist General Artist
At this time it would be +++ but since we use the Single type chart for Triple types, it would still come out as Double Damage. We are currently looking into changing the battle system all together at this time though so this may change. ^^
