Today’s Photoshop Brushes are for achieving the traditional pencil look.

For brush requests, ideas for future brush sets, or related questions you can email me at brushtip@pixelstains.net

The set contains three different brushes:

  • The first one is a 2B pencil. This is the goldilocks pencil for traditional sketching as it’s neither too hard, nor too soft. You can achieve a large range of values with it depending on how hard you push against the surface.
  • The second brush is a 4B pencil. This is my personal favorite as I prefer to use a light touch. The only downside in traditional medium is that you have to sharpen it every 3 minutes, but in Photoshop you won’t have to worry about that.
  • The third one is a mechanical pencil.

Tips:

Set a paper texture in the background and paint over it for a pleasant traditional effect.

Set your foreground color to black to be able to work within the full range of values.

NOTE:
All my brushes are FREE to use both in commercial and personal art.
I do not request credit or back linking, but if you do I'll take it as a kind gesture.

These are my favorite drawing brushes ever, I was wondering if these exact brushes can somehow be made useable with clip studio paint? Im wanting to move toward using that program, and the absence of my favorite brushes is what's stopping me. I would be willing to pay for the brushes, too!

Click where it says 'download' over near the top right of this page, then go to your 'downloads' folder & double-click the .zip file. Open the resulting folder & go to the 'Brushes folder. Find the .abr file. Double clicking can do the job, but to do it properly: Open photoshop, open the 'brushes' panel, click the tiny 4 line icon at top right, click 'import', then find your .abr file & double click. Done. The brushes should now appear in 'brushes'.

Great stuff Katy, thanks!
