This is Lavender Town!

One of my recent commissions(And first in my Pokemon Type Special series!). This was one of my favorite commissions to date, I'm a huge fan of Ghost type Pokemon(Gengar being my favorite, but I love all of them to be honest)! And Lavender Town is probably one of my favorite towns in the games. I tried to capture the mood of how each of the Pokemon would interact with eachother and how they would be in this setting. The mansion in the back with the Rotom and the full moon with Giratina's silhoutte I thought really added to the ominous vibe in the picture. Cubone sitting at it's mother's grave was another homage that the client asked for, but I thought adding a little Litwick friend for him would be kinda cute. Can you point out all of the Pokemon in the picture? :D :D :D

I think this work is absolutely wonderful. You've captured each Pokemon as what they would want to be doing, and added in a few little tidbits that kept me combing over this work for hours for the tiny, well hidden details. The Golurk for me was very well made, and I also enjoyed Shiny Gengar popping up from the corner of the house. Your overall manipulation of the Pokemon was excellent, and it seems that none of them have been stretched past the point where they seem unlike themselves. I think the house is a perfect background piece, with it seeming like a silhouette , but the Pokemon giving it life. You've seemingly worked hard on this, and it definitely shows. However, you do have a little work to do in a few areas. Ghastly seems more like a face on a puff than the menacing and annoying ghost it usually is. Dusknoir's eye is slightly off, and I keep losing myself in the surrounding details, trying to avoid it. Overall, nice job. It looks thought out and like an excellent idea. You've executed it nearly perfectly, and for that, I give kudos. However, you've made a few small errors which are important when doing a piece with this level of detail, since when I see this much detail, I want to find every little possible thing about it. Without a doubt, a piece of impeccable taste and shows your top-level skills as an artist. I would definitely like to see pieces like this around Deviant Art more.

I like this artwork quite much. It must have been a huge effort to choose and sketch all these Pokémon and to place them in the right perspective, as well as one need to pay attention to their different sizes. The dark colurs and shades are convincing, and the motive creates an atmosphere somewhere in between fantasy and reality. Only "problem" I would see is that the picture maybe is a bit overloaded - one easily can loose the overview over all the different Pokémon. I needed to look at it more than three times to recognize all the different ones, and maybe you even could have left out some of them, it would have been enough though.
Nevertheless, you did a great job! My highest regards to this piece, you can be proud of it!~

The shading and use of the color is phenomenal! You have summarized all of Lavender Town in one picture! The spookiness, the fierceness, and the creepiness of it all is highlighted with every Pokemon present within the image! I love how you used the different shades of purple as well as used the grey to give each individual the foggy/ghostly effect.

I only have a few issues here, though. I think the night sky could be darkened a bit to make the fogginess stand out more. I also think that the building could be less....Disney-looking to aid with the creepiness and give the overall picture an ominous feature to it.

Aside from that, you're basically good!

Fantastic work on this! Overall it's a very well done piece with a great atmosphere, and a very well done dark eerie mood to it. As this is a critique though I'll point out a few thing and how you could improve a bit. ^^

Composition: I feel like the composition of the image is a bit crowded. I'm not sure if it's from the sheer amount of Pokemon you added to the image, or the feeling of disorganization. I think thinning the herd a bit, and making sure each pokemon has a proper place in the image would really help improve this piece! Also, I feel like the house/moon in the background are the focal point of the image, but the scattered Pokemon distract your eye from getting there. Maybe organizing the Pokemon so that they form a type of path to the house would help guide the viewers eye around the image ^^

Overall fantastic job, you obviously put a huge amount of work into this piece, and it really shows! Great work <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/b/b…" width="15" height="15" alt=":D" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="366" title=":D (Big Grin)"/>

I really like this! I like how it's chock-full of detail and hidden secrets. I like how Banette is holding what appears to be a tiny voodoo doll in her hand and is eyeing it with malice. (Is she getting ready to stab it with a pin? Or is she perhaps sending it telepathic waves of pain and hatred to torment the person it represents?) I think it's creative how you put Rotom's other forms in the house's windows. The little section with the grieving Cubone is a sweet tribute to the games, and the way I see it, it also shows that death isn't always about fearsome beasts and monsters--it's also about sorrow and remembrance, especially for those of us who have lost a beloved friend or a family member. I like how you included Spinaraks, Hoothoots, and Murkrow in the picture even though they're not Ghost-Type Pokemon; they fit very well with the haunted house theme.

I noticed that like in your Shiny Pokemon picture, you put Gengar at the fore. Is he your favorite Pokemon?

Thank you very much for the kind words :) I was hoping people would enjoy the inclusion of other Pokemon besides Ghost Types as well :)

And yes, Gengar is my all time favorite Pokemon!! :D :D

The shading on this piece is very dark and eerie, which works great for this. The lavender tower seems to be a bit too faint for the piece, maybe make it a bit more noticeable. I saw that you had a shiny Trevenant, which is cool but it's not that noticeable unless you look close at the red tuft of leaves. If you want it in there, make it noticeable, or just take it out, because it is the only one. Now, to Giratina. Giratina is the KING OF GHOSTS! MAKE HIM THE FOCAL POINT! MAKE HIM BIGGER! MAKE HIM LOOK LIKE HE IS COMING TOWARDS YOU AND REALLY FAST!! Other than that, I LOVE your piece!

Hmm...you know a couple of throw pillows, a fresh coat of paint, and a new rug and the place will look like new.

You mean the mansion in the back? True true
Unkownbrony52's avatar
Maybe. Maybe even give these little critters some Klondike bars for the night.

For the love of god, this is AWESOME! You did managed to put every single Ghost-Type pokemon here and even added the Kalos pokemons! I'm also wow'ed how creepy and cartoony it was! With the cartoony-like haunted house, it makes it amazing!
