Vaelia Copic Practice by Pitdragon Vaelia Copic Practice by Pitdragon
Practicing more with Copics. The paper is a page in a watercolor pad. 140lb and 5.5"x8.5". I tried scanning it but it looked odd (the cover folded open tilted it up and blurred the left side some), so I took a picture with my phone and cropped it down a little (cropping showed it was a little crooked in my holding, but only slightly). Also you can tell by the birds that Sakura Microns still can streak a bit even if you've let the inks sit a while before coloring!

Vaelia of Drowtales, at least at her age when she joined up with the Raiders. I swear I was doodling this before :icondrowtales: put up that 15years later character design of her (and her kids)!

have you tried marker paper or smooth bristol? its easier to blen on those papers and you wont see as much streaking.. also the shadows could be a bit deeper but other than that i love it! great job on her face

I was using a watercolor paper. Bristols I saw at the art store mentioned dry media, so I gravitated to the watercolor just in case. There was only one type of marker paper there, so I was a bit unsure what to do. Her armor is a combo of two different colors (not the padded area, that's just Leather), so that took well. I've used 90lb. cardstock too, and while I like it I can't get it to scan well (it also bleeds a bit, I think 140lb. like the watercolor paper would be better). I think it is just this scanner and me not being able to adjust the colors to what they look like to me, when I tried to scan this image with the scanner it looked just as washed out.

I've read some people having issues with Sakuras streaking with Copics though, they usually suggest finding Copic brand liners. I'll think on it, there wasn't really any other streaking issues than those birds I noticed easily.

The shadows are also off a bit too, I'm implying the sun is overhead I guess. ^^; But thanks, I tried to make her face look like her!

watercolor paper is more absorbant so it eats the ink out of your markers faster and they dry faster making it tougher to blend. canson makes a good bristol that doesnt bleed out much and is pretty affordable, same with their marker paper. worth giving it a try imo

i use the sakura pens and the copic pens with my markers. unless im using marker paper i dont notice much bleeding if any with either. recently ive been trying out a bunch of different inking pens but havent noticed much of a difference between those 2 brands and the faber castell ones

you did a really good job. you could have had her with a different hairsstyle and frilly dresses and i still would have known it was her ^^

Hmm, I shall not fear the Bristol then. As much as the local scrapbook store lady would love my needing refills sooner (she reminds me she buys refill kits every time I show up for new colors), I'd rather not dry out my markers so soon. :lmao:

Never a frilly dress! :O Vaelia probably would feel like poor Casca at that ball I'd wager! (though given Drow fashion she probably wears dresses often enough)
