Blood and Gold Ch. 21
“Stupid Billy making me do stupid work…” Lefty groaned as he was sweeping the deck, a difficult task for one with only one hand. “Ray at least helped if it was late at night.” The mouse sighed as he looked at Bill standing there proud. Now he did not have to work as hard on the Felicia when he was the first mate. Lefty moved his eyes to the other crew members, they all had the same expression. Things had changed so much the last three years. Oliver Loran was gone, now Ray was too.
“Get back to work!” Bill commanded tired. “I need my beauty sleep!”
Lefty glared and wanted to snap back something, but kept quiet. The mouse’s eyes suddenly widened when a shadow moved behind Bill. “What?” The lizard asked and watched the brown mouse let go of the mop so it fell onto the planks of the deck. “You lazy-” Bill stopped when he felt som

Ratigan was walking on the deck, looking at his crew working to maintain the Felicia. Even though Billy did an acceptable job as first mate, it wasn’t the same without Ray… nor Oliver. The captain sighed and fixed his gloves and sword. He looked up and sniffed the air as something didn’t feel right. The crew on their knees stood up, startled, as the deck was filled with a black smoke, burning into the lungs and causing them to cough. Ratigan’s eyes widened when he sensed the fog and looked to the side when a big shadow loomed over them.
“What a nice day, Captain!” A voice said and Ratigan rolled his eyes and lifted his head towards it.
“Thought you hated the sun, cel Rau.” Ratigan said and walked to the helm. The dark grey mouse chuckled and stood on the railing. With one long step he landed elegant on the deck of the Felicia, making the crew jump aside. Fane slowly walked towards Ratigan.
“It’s Captain cel Rau.” Fane sa
Blood and Gold: Ch. 9
“Ugh,” Basil grunted as they made their way down the dimly lit hallway. Moving around was making his back hurt even worse. Amber glanced at him with concern, trying to hold his weight as best as she could while they stumbled along.
“It’ll be alright…” she whispered, panting from the effort but still urging him to keep going. “We’ll find you somewhere to rest until Ray brings a doctor…”
The thing was she had no idea where she was going. She’d only been on the ship for a day and still didn’t know her way around. With those wounds, he wouldn’t be able to sleep comfortably in his usual spot in a hammock bunking with the crew; and besides, they probably wouldn’t leave him alone and let him rest. He needed somewhere to recuperate in peace. If Ray hadn’t kicked them out of his cabin…
Amber shook her head, trying not to be bitter towards the Dane. She couldn’t blame him after all.

Ray opened his eye again, feeling chills go down his spine as Fane chuckled darkly. "I used it on one of our prisoners and with you two coming along I didn't have time to reload it.”
Ray dropped the weapon, letting it clatter to the floor as he fell to his knees, trembling from thinking he had almost killed himself when Fane had known all along that the chamber was empty. Defeated, Ray used his last resort. “Please,” he begged, still shivering as he hung his head. “Just let her go.”
He flinched as Fane approached, boots thumping on the floorboards until he stood directly in front of Ray. “Very well.” Ray looked up in surprise, seeing Fane grin down at him, almost seeming impressed by Ray’s act. “On my honor, I will release the damsel unharmed. Do we have an accord, Mr. Lehmann?”
Ray gulped ner
100 Themes: Trouble Lurking“Garin! Captain Garin, you’re not going to believe what I just found out!” Jim said, skidding into the pub and running up to his captain, who sat at a table with the rest of his crew. Garin lifted a hand slightly to his friend to slow him down.
“Take it easy mate, what’s up?” Garin asked.
“I just got word of a large haul that was taken from deep in the jungle! Someplace called the Valley of the Gold Sun, or something!”
“Are you sure?” Garin asked, his ears pricking upright. Jacques looked at his friend.
“You’ve heard of it?”
“Yeah, it was a story Hannah told me about once. I can’t believe the place was real!”
“Real for sure! And some lucky buccaneers are walking away with a whole shipload of gold!” Jim continued. “And get this! The captain is that old sea rat whose crew you got shanghaied into a few months back!”
Garin raised an eyebrow. “Really now? Oh well thi
