well a city wall usually seperates the city from ...anything else.. but as time passed.. that is just the thing to separate the old town

Seperates traders town and uper town from suburbs (witch were made of wood and burned down in wars) and each other - uper town is castle complex (like one of 10th of town itself) on hill for lords and barons. Uper town has different walls - its only standing very near to town.

Just very few blurry words about Middle Ages town defences on Tallinn example. :) Maybe I but one photo of myself on border of uper and lower town here.

There - [link] - this is. I had a mistake - I'm not on picture - but then I can be sure that this picture is taken by myself :)

This was perfect day and time for making shootride over all old town, but I had other things to do - for example move through town to home from railwaystation.
