Race

Earth: Steadfast and one with the nature, two most wonderful ingrained abilities to have. Earthponies (EP) have all the possibilities to face different times through their own strength and abilities, which really speaks to me as a nature's boy with a long scouting past. I think an EP's biggest appeal would be that with the general focus on hard work the race faces and their lack of magic or extra limbs forces them to be creative and inventive which gives them quite the incentive to become geniuses in their own right and create the groundwork for the races to get closer together because with mechanical, free-for-all-inventions many physical differences can be overcome.

They may not have something extraordinary to them but they excel therein that they are strong characters who in their own way have all the options and capabilities of forming their own, united intellectuals that benefit Equestria as a whole. Especially when compared to the Unicorns who have more liberties and means of creating 'progress', I become quite fascinated with Earth ponies: Unicorns run on Magitec and often form their own circles with their inventions being based on their race, whereas Earth ponies benefit the most from inventions and their results can be used by anypony. This is why I think culturally EPs might be my pick, because as a spiritual Pan-European (who is pretty much disillusioned with the execution), I value unity as an important factor in diverse cultures who share a lot of common bonds, and for me their basic traits really help in creating an environment where such unity is the result of their thinker's inventions.

Pegasus: Ah flight, my enemy in real life but my best friend as a concept and an expression of ultimate freedom. Pegasi must have a wonderful time being home to an additional dimension than the other races - More space for expansion, no real issues with congestion or natural barriers, a beautiful view over Equestria's wonderful landscapes, what is not to love there? Other than that they also have another set of highly flexible limbs with which they can affect their surroundings (and we have seen quite a lot of applications :)) and they have the most wonderful ability of affecting the freakin' weather, which is the most awesome ability ever.

Ability-wise, Pegasi are purely awesome, unfortunately Equestrian society is quite taxing on them with a high demand of them having to work in weather-factories just to guarantee Equestria's future which really puts an ethical barrier up in the ways a Pegasus-foal might develop its interests: It is either drawn into full-time weather-business or generally put to work there for special occassions which both limits their overall liberty. Another factoid I wouldn't like about Pegasi is that with the many floating societies they have and their warlike past, the race seems to be a bit outside the general Equestrian unity, which also shows itself therein that a lot of Pegasi ponies of the day (and even recurring characters) are often presented to be quite jerkish and self-centered. This just speaks against my own morals and unfortunately, a lot of these problems seem to be ingrained in the system - as long as Pegasi are constantly being nudged towards weathering as their main task, they will be primarily airbased and secluded within their own circles and not widely mix themselves with a lot of other folks. Until Unicorns start abusing their abilities or some machine gets built to assist them, there will always be some degrees of separation.

Unicorn: Let's be absolutely honest, Unicorns are gamebreakers in Equestrian society. Since the princesses took over, they are completely wthout racial responsibility and are thus completely free to choose their paths without negative consequences or ethical barriers. Seeing how Unicorn-gatherings compare to the settlings of the other races or what positions they tend to hold in mixed-race-settlings, they are generally better of, be it through having those liberties or through their magical abilities, which even on the basic telekinetic-level are clearly overpowered - A trained telekinetic spell or an imaginative usage of it, is about the only spell a Unicorn should ever need anyway, because it can affect about anything and emulate a lot of other spells.

Add the possibility of some very seriously epic high-level-spells, the fact that skilled or trained Unicorns can perfectly emulate the other races' special abilities, and all the mundane usages of magic, and Unicorns clearly are the most superior race in Equestria who have both the best opportunities and the best means of making a difference. With my nerdiness and studiosity (...), I might make a good Unicorn because I'd surely find some interesting application for magics, and if the Equestrian >spirit< would overrule more logical developments in my hypothetical pony-upbringing, I think I could get some meaningful results. Compared to Pegasi, Unicorns have way more power to actually break the barriers that were built and also have all the possibilities to really choose their path instead of being constantly nudged towards one specific task.

All in all I think that I'd choose my cultural pick though - it fits me and I don't have to make too much assumptions or try being someone I'm not.

Cutie Mark

I have basically four big pillars where my Mark could come from: My work with children, my work as a stage technician, my studies in Business Informatics, and finally my literary and historical passion. The first three pillars fill most of my week with productivity, whereas the last fills the otherwise completely boring ten hours of train-rides I have to take weekly to move from the first two pillars to the third.

The first pillar might be the one I have the closest bond to and which gave me the most awesome and touching memories. I basically started my work at 15 with getting leadership of my first group at the local scout's group and from then it went onwards: Irregular, independantly organized workshops; ongoing projects with the most popular being basically an educational "Let's watch" and a lot of big camps with my original scouting-group.
Seeing how all these kids developed and that sometimes I really made a difference in their life is one of the best feelings I ever had, and the best part is that this feeling can be reproduced. My most cherished moment might be when I got a lot of messages from them after I left for university and how they (and the NPO I did most of my later work under) basically begged me to come back with offers I just could not refuse :)

The second pillar started developing at my school's theatre class where I did everything technical (lights, sound, etc) and where I instantly fell in love with the pults. As a technician you also have the best view at the stage (and thus can also give the best critique) and see a lot of plays develop from scratch.
Currently I am combining it with my first big pillar, as I'm helping my old school in teaching the new technicians while the only teacher with the necessary clearance is on maternity leave. I also lead an extra-curricular course about the basic concepts of the theatre course to help younger classes to choose this course during their last years instead of the previously mandatory arts/musics.

The third pillar basically started from my general nerdyness combining itself with my knowledge about the nature of IT-jobs: I always loved computers but seeing how the attached jobs are mostly short-lived, full of overtimes, and neverchanging, I looked around and found this course which basically marks the interface between a program and its application, and has a general focus on solving disputes between them and organising projects. In short: This course incorporates something which simply can't vanish until the singularity comes, has a lot of potential fields to dock unto, and all the organisational aspects help enormously with about everything (and currently my first two pillars :)). Seeing how my first two pillars are horrible full-time jobs around here and how I hate ruining my hobbies, I found this to be quite interesting alternative.

The fourth is my oldest passion: When it comes to good books, my plans are gone. Thankfully I now have a lot of time in trains where I finish around one book per ride (or as much of long, hard classics as my brain can handle). I am now in the wonderful situation where I can spent my free-time with a few chapters of old classics, have some 'easy' literature for my train-rides, and absolutely no inner pressure to rush everything in one sitting :)
History is related to this passion and shows itself often while reading my beloved classics: I simply love seeing books as a products of their time and how humanity changed in many respects. Finding out the why and how is simply wonderful (as a concept, the specifics are mostly quite gruesome), and I could spent hours alone with the meta-plots or annotations. I also find it quite fascinating how widespread and easily accessible such primary sources of a different time have become and how some of them still hold up or raise some interesting, still relevant questions. Even if it may sound a bit sappy and preachy: Books can be a perfect medium to transport history without having the 'boring' part attached because they tell their history emotionally and thus can help us in getting closer to otherwise culturally foreign cultures.
I am generally hugely nerdy about humanity's development and all the difficulties we have faced in our times, and to be perfectly honest: Seeing all the dark ages we faced and how often a single human being made a different for the better or helped others to be the best they could be, was a real inspiration to me and made me a better person. In fact, it might even be one of the reason I like working with children so much and helping them in learning a lot of different activities and factoids: Even when there is a lot of darkness in the world, you or the people you helped in finding themselves, can make all the difference.

I think my Mark's symbolism is quite clear: Most of my real passions revolve around the juxtaposition of learning and teaching, of finding and giving inspiration and making a difference. How such a Mark would look like is a different question, maybe a mirror radiating light, or a glowing book?

Occupation

Given what I said about Earth Ponies as the motor of 'common' inventiveness and my biggest passion, there are some paths already paved for me in a society like Equestria's where educators are treated with respect and seem to have some more liberties about how to run their classes. Nonetheless I think that standard classes would be my calling, there are still a lot of barriers about how to act and what to teach and I am as idealistic as the Equestria the show is going for - I teach for the effects and the experience, not for arbitrary pieces of paper that influence whole lifes. I want them to become better beings and not be forced to put some of them down.

I think I'd more or less do what I do now: Gather groups together and take a more practical, fun-based approach to some aspects or go on about all the softer subjects. I already posted under my headcanon-base how I think Cutie Marks form and manifest and what better way to help them find them than guiding them through a variety of activities and help them mature on the way? As an Earth Pony I could also use the chance to get on to the system's racial inequalities - Show those unicorns that they too should take responsibilities, help the Pegasi to find their own way and get the Earth Ponies mind to the greatness they can achieve and generally show all ponies how best to emulate the other race's specialties for a more 'equal' society in the not-Starlight-fashion.

This directly leads to the second occupation, the more official one: Being a special educator is done purely for harmony's sake and is built upon the pillar of neutrality from outside influences. As such it would be a worthwhile and accepted existance inside harmony nationified (far more than in our world ^^) but nonetheless it would not be stable (fluctuating amounts of colts and fillies, changing environment, danger of burnout etc.). Taking the educational value into a second, official existance.
Being on a 'Committee for the the reduction of racial discrepancies' and getting some things in the open could be interesting and both help in spreading the word about the real job and combine both's areas of expertice. Thankfully an idealistic place like Equestria is more likely to put people in charge who actually have experience in their area. More realistic though would be something artistic like my theatric work or something like a minijob at the library or a museum - I have the knowledge, I have the interest, and Equestria seems to give a lot more trust to firsttimers than our world. Even more realistic (and boring) would be the classical job on the side: Writing comments and essays and spreading theories wide around once the name is out ^^

What else to say? I think my ponysona would more or less share one trait of mine: A disdain for boredom and free time. While I absolutely can just sit there and think for hours about a varieties of things, when I have a sensible possibility to do something worthwhile or new, I'm already on my way. Unfortunately, this has a rather dark background: Sometimes everything just gets too much or serious shit keeps piling up until one just is about to break. For me, as someone who thinks way too much for his own good, all this darkness kept creeping into my mind and made it all the worse when I found the time, so for years I absolutely refused silence or time to rest because then I would just feel bad. I did these and that and just burnt myself out physically instead of psychically. Even after understanding this mechanism and getting myself together, I still have these spurs of activity and a rather full schedule. Fortunately this time it is mostly due to the fun some things give me and the feeling to accomplish something worthwhile with a lot of forced braks due to long bus- and train-rides where there is nothing to be done but due something brainy. So yeah, with hidden darknesses being more than just canon in Equestria, I fear my ponysona would relatively just break one way or the other :(
Maybe this is why an official job at a committee would be the best pick: It is something worthwhile, it takes a lot of time for single activities and in Equestria reasoning and plausible theories are worth more than in our BS-heavy world...

Area

My primary place of living, a industrial city focussed solely on the big manufacturer, has no Equestrian equivalent so far. I think the closest to logically deduct might be the manufacturer for the Equestrian Railways - This might be the enterprise that uses the most steel and industrial complexes, and with its importance it might also have a specialized city around the factory. Fortunately in such cities with many working parents or parents who need time outs, there is always need for my type of work ^^

My secondary home, a coastal city with facilities of higher learning, also has no equivalent but here it is way easier to just guess with confidence that such a place exists :)

Appearance

Like most ponysona, mine is is many aspects either similar to me, an exaggeration of some traits or a ponified equivalent, so yeah, have a double-description ^^

Beginning with the head:
  • The eyes are a bit small and constantly baggy in a 16/9-angle. The primary eye-color is also similar to my own, although maybe a bit lighter due to the simplified eye-structure of ponies and the surrounding colors. Mine also have some brown spots in them what just wouldn't work with ponies what amounts to a lot to the dark feeling, so just going by primary color I think this fits closest to me. -The mouth is a bit frowny and seldomly smiles, even though there are quite a lot of happiness-overflows. It just comes hardly to the outside. Yeah, whoever meets me in real-life should keeo this in mind - I might seem distant or sad but this doesn't have to say anything.
  • The mane is on a higher level of abstraction: As a nature's boy who just doesn't care that much about beauty, style and such thing, it is only natural that my ponysona has something untamed and wild on his head. As someone who only gets his hair cut about thrice at maximum I had similar looks before and why not? The biggest difference here is the (natural) hair color but dark brown is kinda boring and I just like dark green-tones that are unfortunately not a natural human color. Also seeing how this is another nature's color akin to my natural brown, it fits at least thematically. As for the graying strands, unfortunately this is not my imagination - My hair began turning bronze at 16 and with 19/20 I got my first silvery roots. In the moment I'm up and kicking withthe silver-bronze attackers being only 'localized' but if this continues I'll be silver before the big three hits me.
  • Relatively normal ears that are not standng out one way or the other...
  • There is a minor, hardly seeable scar on the lower jaw. I got it when I was an overexcited six-year old who just found the hiding place for the cookies. I took them and ran happily around before stumbling face-first on a marble-table. I think my ponysona deserves a more dignified (official) background ^^
Body
  • I am on the darker side of the general Caucasian spectrum with a lot of sun-exposure and hairiness taking care of the rest and making me look even more naturey. My ponysona tries to reflect this by having an earthen brown tone that is on the lower end of the bright colors. As for comparison maybe a bit like the Doctor but with a hint of 'glow' in it (Daring Do?)
  • The strong back is another result from the wanderous years - ponies travel with saddlebags so this would be where all the weight lies and musles develop.
  • Can't ignore the weight...After four years of competitive sports I was suddenly out and my system was not prepared at all :(

Legs and tail
  • The big fetlocks result from me being quite the hairy, bearded men who doesn't like bearded ponies that much and who doesn't really want to think too much about hairception-jokes, so fetlocks it is, which is quite fortunate because I think they are stupidly cute ^^
  • The light limp that sometimes acts up is the result why I had to stop sports - after a freak-accident during a tournament I more or less destroyed everything around my knee that was destroyable and made me completely unable to do real sports more or less for good. Even after more than half a decade I am still dependant on basic, daily exercices to get at least better used to normal pressure. As for my horseself I'd like to imagine a bucking-accident - Hating boredom and empty hours just doing the first worthwhile activity opening up and then making a mistake...
  • My personal scars are mostly results from itchy insect-bites I scratched open for some reason and one nasty fall during my kindergarten-days. The insect-story gets copied exactly as it was, whereas the fall gets cut from history - one leg-injury is enough for ponies and I decided against horns or wings as extra-part...
  • For the tail goes similar than the hair altough I prefer to think the tail is relatively short and bushy as symbol for my hair before it grows outwards ^^
