Payment Information Regarding Chickensmoothie Oekaki Linearts

A lot of people have been inquiring about linearts from me so I felt it was high time to make a list explaining my pricing instead of explaining it every time. If you don't know what commissions I'm talking about, it is on CS, here:…

1/2 down on payment must be given by the time I am done with the rough sketch, I will not begin lining until I have at least 1/2 of the agreed upon payment. The final half can be given upon completion of the lineart and I will not allow you access to the lines until I have full payment.

Pricing on linearts (generally horses) start at a base price and go up depending on the complexity of the lineart, the time it is estimated to take me, and the amount of added "extras" you want. Examples of extras include multiple mane/tail options, optional halter/tack, differences between genders, etc..

These are just estimates. If you want a true quote, note me with exactly what you are looking for and I can give you one.

Base Price currently: $25
This is for a standard horse (body, mane, tail) without heavy hairing such as feathering, excessively long hair, etc.

With excessive hair: +$5
This includes the standard horse body with things such as a very long mane and tail, or feathering (hair on the feet)

With 1-2 extra mane/tail options: +$10
Add $10 for every extra set after the first two. These take quite a while as they will be fully lined, easy to color in, with shading, highlights, and should overlay the base body cleanly.

Halter layer: +$5
If the halter is super detailed/complicated, may go up.

Tack set layer: +$10 and up
An example of a tack set for $10 would be a simple english or western bridle and saddle. If the tack set is very detailed or large, this may go up.

Wings or similar extra limbs: Case-by-case
Depending on how large/complicated these additions are, they may cost more or less. Feathered/pegasus wings are at least $10 extra.

Minor differences between stallions/mares: +$10
These can include things such as heavier feathering on a stallion, or thinner neck on a mare.

Major differences between stallions/mares: Case-by-case
These can include major changes to the overall body shape and other large differences. Depending on the amount of work, the price may vary.

Foal lines: +$20 and up
One set of foal lines with your adult lines is just $20, all additions to the foal needed will cost the same as the adults (like multiple mane/tail options that the adults have, or halter layer, etc.)

Anything else: Case-by-case
Like I said, the best possible way to get an exact price is by sending me a note with EXACTLY what you want. These are just estimates :)

May I ask if you have any tips in lineart and adoptable designs?
I would greatly appreciate them!

On Chickensmoothie I especially like your tennis cat designs!
Thank you~

Never ask me for tips because I ramble! Here is what I consider a winning formula for the current Oekaki adopts:

I can't comment much on designs for species as these vary greatly, but if your goal is a successful species, follow trends - see what else is popular and then come up with your own original design that might include some of those elements. By no means copy anyone, but basically, if your design is very out-there and doesn't include anything that most people seem to enjoy, the species may fail (but it may also do just fine, and start new trends, that's just hard to tell). For example, on CS right now, horse species are very popular. Horses can be very similar but some people take their own twist on horses to make them unique to their "species." Different breeds and characteristics, etc.

As far as linearts for the designs, keep it simple. If it is super complicated and considered by many hard to draw, it'll be harder for people to get into them. You'll notice a lot of the most popular species are really in fact quite simple to draw and aren't very complicated. This goes for the actual adoptable color designs created, too. A super complicated color design is fine once and a while, but sometimes simpler stuff is more pleasing to the eye - and the person who may wish to draw that character.

The Tenvis Cats are a good example to bring up. The concept is fairly simple - a big cat who lives in the jungle with some frills. I gave a purpose to the frills so they make a bit of sense and aren't just there for looks (though they are, lol). The designs have a pattern they sort of follow, so they aren't entirely random (they have multicolored rosetted spots) and also makes variations that don't have the pattern rare and desirable (always good idea to throw in those once and a while to make things interesting and sought after). The lines aren't overly detailed or complicated, the shading isn't in the way of the designs, and they are smooth and solid.

I'm not sure what else you may want to know, but this is the general approach I take to adopts. :)
