[WiP] Flower Festival [Update: 2/02]

Update 2/02

Big has been added to complete the team.... and oh, BOY did he take some saving.... Hands, feet and the top of the umbrella were traced in because I wasn't happy with my attempts and his whole head and face had to be remapped because I realized too late I should have just cropped out more of the umbrella in my printed reference so I'd have more room as detail to work with on Big himself..... the tail was also traced in as a last-minute addition because it struck me as odd that it wasn't visible. I also ended up having to shrink the image a little prematurely because apparently it was too big for DA to handle, but I still have the full version saved separately and it's going to be shrunk a bit once it's eventually colored anyway.

Update 1/19

Cream is cleaned up and ready to go! No major changes or fixes needed, but I realized that I forgot to add the stripe on her head in the sketch, so I used an official art to help ad it as far as its size and placement as well as the little tufts on the back of her head.

I've been wanting to do something Sonic-related since seeing the Sonic Symphony back in June, but idea didn't pan out. Seeing Sonic 3 (especially the post-credits scene...) re-sparked that desire, but I didn't want to spoil anything, so have something I've been wanting to draw ever since Sonic Heroes came out waaaaaaaaaaaaay back when I was in my final year of Junior High.

I... actually owe a lot to Sonic Heroes; wanting to do a collaborative comic after seeing an incomplete fan comic adaptation of Sonic Adventure 2 is what got me to start practice drawing again in the first place after bullying in elementary school had made me stop for a while. An album of the theme and character songs from Sonic Heroes and Sonic Adventure 2 was the first CD I ever burned for myself back at that time and that CD was a source of empowerment when I first started working out regularly. It has now grown into a playlist that includes songs from every subsequent game up to Sonic Frontiers and that new "Fearless" song for the Year of Shadow and has been a staple for my workouts even since.

ANYWAY, reminiscing aside, I figured the best way to go about this one would be to do it in pieces for the sake of detail and because I knew right off the bat there was no way I'd be able to finish ALL of the cleaning in one go, so for now Amy is first and Cream will be cleaned over the course of this coming week while Big will be on a different piece of paper entirely and added the following week. As you can see, I adjust the placement of Amy's arms just a bit and all of the other minor changes are the result of using my other recent drawings of Amy to help clean up certain details.
