Masquerade

The next theme in my February drawing challenge was "Favorite", so figuring out what to do for this one was a no-brainer.

Unfortunately.... that's where the "easy" part ended... between the manga, the original anime and Crystal, getting a decent quality shot for this scene proved to be harder than I hoped. The manga would have been the clearest reference, however Usagi's dress becomes a bit of a mess in it and any images from the original anime were very small and low quality or had weird blingy/gify (or whatever) effect applied. Crystal proved to be better than the original, but the "camera" was still pulled too far back which killed a LOT of the details, so this one needed a lot of saving....

Thanks to all of the black on Mamoru's clothes I had to basically map out the image twice to begin with, but I still had to trace in a bit of his cape, the top of the umbrella due to cropping in order to try to fit in a little more detail and part of one of Usagi's "pigtails" because my plan to use some of my other works to help fill it in didn't work out. Even THEN the faces still had to be remapped using a closer shot just after this and Usagi's crown was traced in because it had all but disappeared in the full-body shot. The roses and little dangly deals on the umbrella were cleaned up using basic clip arts and the hair was cleaned up using some of my previous works.
