I have a pen with a lost cap, and it's been that way for at least eight months. It still works. I mean, I think the reason is so the ink won't dry out (or something like that). Do you guys also have pens that still work despite not having anything covering it when not in use?

Most ball-point pens have a kind of ink formulated not to clog the ball-point, which means the ink only dries when it touches a porous surface (like paper). Alcohol or dye based inks are really the only ones at risk of drying out if you lose the cap, and those are only found in felt tip pens or markers.

Wow, I never thought a specific kind of pen wasn't meant for drying out without touching a surface. Thanks for informing me!
