In which a casting for the Good Omens TV show affects this version of Crowley, and he ain't too happy about it; and it's been a while since we cut back to anyone else and Erik kinda envies Mr and Mrs Glittery Issues all their screen time! but then again maybe not.

(and why did no one tell me about the show Lucifer and that whole tall-dark-and-supernatural-snarky dealing with his "you have no power over me" love interest?! my kind of trash!!)

Popped by to revisit all the Good Omens GND comics after watching the show. Wanted to say A) hope you're enjoying the adaptation and B) thank you for including Az and Crowley in your comic. Your comic was my first introduction to many books, movies, and fandoms, including Labyrinth and Good Omens (had never heard of either before!). Discovered GND when searching for Phantom content in 2009 and ended up learning about many other cool things along the way. So if not for you, I might not have read Good Omens at all. Thank you for this lovely little corner of the internet!

I just did a comments binge and couldn't find any previous comments that mention this but it's funny that you bring up Lucifer since his comic book appearance is based solely on David Bowie. www.techtimes.com/articles/127…

There are a LOT of pop-culture characters out there with the creepy-elegant-androgyny/slightly-more-than-human thing going on who are obviously based on Bowie, and plenty more on Jareth himself, too. :D
(yeah, big Sandman fan, I remember reading about that.)

I absolutely love Lucifer, and I'm so excited for Good Omens! Have you watched American Gods by chance?

Is the deeper meaning that you struggle to find any more use for them ...?

BRILLIANT IDEA: How about a story arc where she learns everything about his murders! :la: And the blackmailing and the mind games of course!

Is it even buried that deep? :D

Hmm, I rather think it's implied Mag is up to speed on Erik's canon. Harking back to the disastrous sushi double date.... the factoid Erik was sweating bullets over Raoul revealing at the table was his *in-comic* lapse in kidnapping Sarah. And while that young lady frequently dragged Jareth over the coals for movie misdeeds, there is a vague sense that the Building dwellers are covered by a sort of blanket amnesty for canon villainy, when there are signs of progress since.
And part of what makes Phantomaggia for me is her being pretty blasé about psycho murderers....

"Is it even buried that deep?"

WOO-HOO, YASS FINALLY! Good riddance, creepy emo and whats-her-name-fill-the-girlfriend-gap! More space for JxS naughtiness!

Seriously, what drew me originally and mostly to this saga was the actual merging of Labyrinth and PotO ... so the part of me that loves PotO can't help but feel somewhat miffed that GND gradually became "Sarah next door". :invisible: Still staying, and Sarah's story is the reason...!

"Hmm, I rather think it's implied Mag is up to speed on Erik's canon."

*re-reading the part* Well, here you've got at least one dump reader who interpreted that panels wrongly. Maybe it's because English isn't my native language. Mag's speech bubble(s) and your "As far as Mag knows Raoul is just *bashing on old stories*." in the artist' comment made me think she "just" had basic "I used to be an a-hole and I bring some baggage" infos about Erik's past, but not the juicy details. Yes, now I get what your comment meant to convey.

"Harking back to the disastrous sushi double date.... the factoid Erik was sweating bullets over Raoul revealing at the table was his *in-comic* lapse in kidnapping Sarah."

And Erik's tantrums, his "tender musical kidnapping" of Christine, and his attempts to kill someone in-comic don't count, because those lapses were played for laughs...?
Erik: "Yeah sure, Mag is cool with my canon killings and stuff. Amnesty and progress. But DON'T YOU DARE mentioning the sh*t I did on GND, she would totally leave me for that!!" ... :cough:
Also - Raoul was allowed to learn the truth about his brainwashings, Chris was allowed to learn the truth about her brainwashing, but Mag needs to stay in the dark about kidnapping and Co. ?

"And part of what makes Phantomaggia for me is her being pretty blasé about psycho murderers...."
And I don't really ... get? this indifference of hers? Considering that her main canon function was to rebell against her psycho employer with the killer squad. I guess it's supposed to be ironically funny?
When Erik was put together with Mag in Roomies and GND I saw some comments stating "It fits because they have both that certain dark side". Watching Repo! then I expected Mag to be some sort of female Erik, but imho she's nothing like that in canon. At worst she was an enabler.

(ah nuts, started to answer and computer hiccupped)

I... have called myself out a few times on Mr&Mrs Glittery Issues gettin' all the fanservice round these parts, haven't I?
I can make a few bad faith arguments about attempting to redress the balance of how much canon material there is between the franchises, and how the existence of Raoul and the original endings make for better narrative closure; but essentially, yah, though I have a deep lingering tenderness for my pre-teen PotO obsession and try to do right by the characters, my faves and source of fizzy fangirl glee are obvious.

Although I do posit, after that massive JS development Date mini-arc was done, that since that pagetime has been fairly even between Labyrinth and PotO casts - albeit with RC  which is not the majority phangirl drug of choice.

To address your other points:
Yep, "Erik's tantrums, his "tender musical kidnapping" of Christine, and his attempts to kill someone in-comic don't count" because they were essentially humourous characterization, what with the whole original "living with villains" premise (and yes, throwaway gags become awkward in hindsight sometimes). And maybe Mag wouldn't even be so upset at finding out about the kidnap kaper except.... well, that IS the idea of the "amnesty" notion, without getting as deep and meta as 'Roommates' about Story's puppeteering, and post-canon free will - that former villains in their stories are acknowledged as having been playing a necessary part, For Drama! - but they own their actions and choices in this post-canon setting. And in Erik's case, he regressed to antics he'd even backed down from/renounced in his original canon moment of redemption, extra bad marks.
Most of the cast is sympathetic and willing to let it slide due to extra stress after the RC breakup possibility, etc. (except Jareth of course) It probably *wouldn't* be a deal-breaker with Mag, only..... well, she's aware her protégée Shilo is good friends with the girls, she could feel a twinge of guilt/protectiveness by transferral - as you point out, her canon function is to rebel against her deal with the devil, but that is catalyzed by her discovering Shilo's existence and wanting to protect her from the entire bloody machination. Should she see any parallels to Shilo's situation in Sarah being threatened by Erik, it would ping badly. Although of course, she has her own uncharitable resentment of Christine, and acquired-from-Erik distaste of Jareth ergo somewhat of Sarah by association. I dislike the catty female jealousy tropes, but Mag's feelings about our heroines are pretty mixed.

I'm considering Mag's relation with Nathan as a good basis here - he had become a quasi split-personality sadistic murderer in his bereaved grief and drive to protect his daughter, which she seems fairly understanding of - although, true enough, everyone in that tragedy is being coerced and manipulated by Rotti. But it's less a case of shared "actively revelling in being shades of grey/morally corrupt" dark sides as it is her coming from a very dark canon, involving plenty of plastic surgery/facial horrors, murders of convenience/"necessity", dangerous mentorships, and her being - by choice - blind; meaning a lot of the immediate superficial squeamishness one could have in dealing with the Phantom is nullified and she isn't going to be distracted in her assessment of his character. Besides the meta irony of her being played by Sarah Brightman, at, I am given to understand, a far more polished state of her vocal achievements than her early career recordings of the original-cast PotO musical.... (which also adds to Christine's issues about Erik's rebound ship...).

... Please understand that I am enjoying the needling and engaging with arguments here, not trying to wall-of-text intimidate and dismiss your legit reader interpretation of pages and events.
(disclaimer 'cos I've dealt with such accusations before.)

Ah, the curse of the misinterpretations, it's everywhere.

"I... have called myself out a few times on Mr&Mrs Glittery Issues gettin' all the fanservice round these parts, haven't I? (...)"

And riiight here one of my many misinterpretations. ;) I always liked to see some "Oops, I did it again! Next time the others will get a little spotlight again. Maybe." in those messsages. But I guess an interpretation a la "Well, yeah, sorry but not sorry, this is how I roll." would be more correct.

"Although I do posit, after that massive JS development Date mini-arc was done, that since that pagetime has been fairly even between Labyrinth and PotO casts (...)"

Ok, yes, I noticed Christine and Raoul are more present right now. Ascounterbalanacetforthetwomainsmumblemumble.

Big Thank you for the elaborate depiction of your views on Mag's role etc. . Personally I am actually quite touched instead of intimidated by your long replies. Despite being an "actual" artist with actual projects you still take the laborious time when you could also easily just apply "Don't like don't read" or other easier answers. I wish I could respond to your summations with a "Ah, finally, now I get it, now I share your viewpoints".  I hope a "Ah, finally, now I get it" is also passable. :ashamed: And I spare us all from replying with another text wall of mine that would basically boil down to "But I see it like this but I see it like that bla bla personal reader interpretation bla bla your glass might be half full mine is clearly half empty".

PS: Oh, and I thiiink when I edit an answer -all- edits pop up in your inbox? If that is really so, I must have flooded your inbox last time a little, Sorry!!

Sometimes I feel it is a bit egotistical and frankly masturbatory to get into long involved discussions of my own work. On the other hand, they weren't my characters (nor even my premise) to begin with, so in a way it is just general fanwank/debate and discussing of headcanons....

.... There's a deliberate storytelling exercise that motivates me to continue GND, and there's also my own shits and giggles and fansquee reasons. So yeah, re imbalance issues, sorry/not sorry.

(don't worry, I'd only see the "live" edit notifications in the corner if I'm on dA while you're typing, the Notification center only shows me the final cut)

Mm-hm, I'll take David Tennant in howsoever form he appears. Though I STILL think they missed a chance to get Mark Sheppard, too, somehow (heh). Er . . . focusing on the comic, I Love this "meanwhile, back at the ranch" behind the scenes look :) There can never be too much of the magical glitter couple <3, but I was beginning to wonder what everyone else was up to :)
