GND 277 - Underrated by Pika-la-Cynique GND 277 - Underrated by Pika-la-Cynique
Yes this all looks rather familiar. Poor Sarah and her multiple in-comic headaches.

(because of RL terribad happenings I will try to get you the second part of this soon- I think we all need silly, shippy escapist fanservice right now....)

good morning Sarah! You would think by now she would be used to him popping up randomly in her apartment whenever she says his name.

Given the goblin in one corner and Sarah's comments on thin walls a few panels back, I assumed the snoring fuzz-ball on the pillow was Ludo :D But it seems they're spending the night in Liz's spare room and the bedmate is Christine.

(I also assumed the distant visual crash(?) in the top panel was something waking Sarah up, but apparently it's just headache...)

A pocket-sized silent Jareth might be a definite improvement!

I notice that Sarah doesn't actually say his name (also, no summoning glitter-poof), so does that imply that he has been lurking in the bathroom overhearing everything that's said all night...?
N.B. Eavesdroppers deserve everything they hear ;p

"Hasslle"? :(

Also, hurrah!
I've finally reached the beginning of my stacked up dA notifications, i.e. all the pages that started arriving while I was still reading the earlier ones; can start actually ticking them off now ;)

They are in the same room as before, is a pull-out sofa bed. Going to sleep in the fumes of a booze-up always adds to the waking-up-hungover joy.

(the ambiguous opening panel has to do with explanation on next page - yeah?)

"Hasslle" : .... look it's 3am and she has a hangover, typos can happen.   :ashamed:

Explanation on next page... ah, so that's Jareth's nightmare about the collapsing castle that woke her up?

Yeah, pretty much. Besides the dehydration, etc. It was a bit of confusing feedback loop, probably, Sarah's RL headache/feeling shitty and Jareth's memory-explanation of it synching up in their dreams.

this is a good question...  I found this on squid "Squid can hear, scientists have confirmed. But they don't detect the changes in pressure associated with sound waves, like we do. They have another, more primitive, technique for listening: They sense the motion generated by sound waves." (livescience.com)

based on this, I'd say out of water he is deaf, or more like out of water sounds like underwater to us?

Of course, Cthulhu being a god from another part of the galaxy altogether, it's anyone's guess what - or where - his organs of perception actually are. He might hear with his kneecaps for all we know.

ACK! Another 4 am reference!

For those playing the home game, 4 am appears in movies, songs, poetry, art, and just about every medium. There's even a 4 am museum somewhere. just google it. There's a few TED talks too.
Its that crazy time that's too late to be late and too early to be early <3

It's 4:03 and I can't sleep
Without you next to me I
Toss and turn like the sea
If I drown tonight, bring me
Back to life
Breathe your breath in me
The only thing that I still believe
In is you, if you only knew (ShineDown "If You Only Knew")
.... sorry this lodged in my head upon reading your comment, so I figured I'd share.

And just what, may I ask, are YOU doing there, Goblin King? If you're trying to score more points with Sarah by trying to convince her to let you cure her hangover, her response leaves the impression that that attempt is going to go in the opposite direction.

This series and these characters, and the world you've built with them have been such a bright spot and pick me up. I started reading them in high school, and I graduate college this May. So many published comic series get canceled or go dark, book series end and films don't go the direction fans hope, but Girls Next Door has always been a very surprising, and very enjoyable series that maintains lightness and laughter, with a focus on friendship and independence (and some much needed fanservice now and again), and in uncertain times, for you to say that this series is still here and still here to make us smile, it means so much.
Thank you for this series, and for your time and dedication and love that you so clearly put into it for us despite your busy life. You're appreciated more than you know.

I used to follow this comic really faithfully in high school because I was so in love with the universe you've created and your art and storyline are, literally perf! Being French-American, those little bits of French here and there are sooo precious and hilarious heheheh. Anyways, I've just come back to this page (after two years of uni, not having time for such *trivial* things as internet comics, fuck school work+teenage eyeroll) and am soooooo happy you've kept it going. I've just spent an hour or two catching up on the comic! It's just as amazing as I remember and gives me real joy in such grey days. Anyways, you're amazing, keep going <3

I remember what you said a couple years ago about this comic being, at root, about two women navigating the world while establishing their independence and control over their lives, careers, love interests, etc... and that's kept surfacing for me in the last few days while I've checked this page and re-read and cried my way through a very tough couple of days. Like, BIG SURPRISE, bc I tell you it every time I comment, but this is one of the most validating works of fiction for me, as a woman, because it tells such a thoughtful, balanced story about young women. So basically, thanks again, for not giving up on it quite yet.

I honestly had a "what is even the point" moment about all that, the trying to distil pro-agency themes and question sexist romance tropes in a funny fancomic, in the face of this massive, sickening RL blow to what fragile progress was achieved. But then, besides feeling a bit silly and melodramatic and self-important, well, the conviction was that this was exactly the point. It's not exactly risking life and limb in street protests or even posting where alt-right trolls hang out, but even if readership is not what it was 3 years ago, there's a lot of [like-minded, ergo scared and sickened and angry; or not] people who are invested in this and if I can give 'em 5 minutes' feelgood and knock away a sliver of a chip of demeaning narratives - well. However minute that is not worthless.
(Also, timing worked out so that I had just finished a hard push on a project and was raring to get back to fandom.)
Thanks, though I am terribly aware of how tiny and unrisky my own battleground is.

I think continuing this fancomic and giving it your time and energy, your willingness to put yourself out there as an author and an artist with a feminist message, your willingness to engage in criticism, not to mention your thoughtful replies to readers, continued brainstorming and theorization, and utter patience in the face of some really dense comments (SO many dense comments) is giving of yourself– certainly much more than I do everyday. It's brought a lot of people a lot of validation and joy, and I count that as a victory, even (or even especially) in the face of our current tragedy.

Ahh, poor Jareth. Forget Sarah, take meeeeee instead! On another note, there was an interview with Jennifer Connelly in the Metro paper this morning, which cheered me up.
My friend, who is an even bigger Labyrinth fan than me (if that's possible because I am actually incapable of falling asleep with fantasising about it after years of conditioning) said that she'd like the soundtrack for Christmas. Easy, I thought, I have a copy of the CD myself. But oh no, she told me, on vinyl please. Frickin' vinyl! Just make my life hard, why don't you? Anyhow, I have found it on vinyl, but it's £120. I wish I could buy it for her, I really do, because her face would just light up. But she's going to have to make do with the CD like every bugger else. Oh, forgive my rambling.
