GND 274 - Girls' Night In II

With all the emotional and magical turmoil in her life, it's good for Sarah to know she has girl friends happy to lend a sympathetic ear to her troubles and proffer advice and support.
.... or just a load of bad crotch jokes. Damnit, Chris.

Weekend at Lizzie's and the mojitos are adding up. Skeep has had it forcefully impressed upon him/her that there is a solemn statute of secrecy on such evenings.

This is a work of fanart and solely intended for shits and giggles. Not mine, not making money from it.

Crotch jokes should always arise when His Codpiece-ly-ness is mentioned..

So if Sarah didn't tell Christine the details of the verbal exchange with Jareth, then Christine spent the evening laughing and taking pictures of... the inadvertent Goblin Queen outfit?
(I assumed it would just unmanifest itself once Sarah became consciously aware of it, or at least once she concentrated on trying to get rid of it, but it sounds as if she may have got a little stuck...)

And apparently -- for all her cool, low-key air about it with Jareth himself -- she still isn't all that relaxed about the whole 'going out on an ordinary date' idea.

"Why would you phrase it like that" -- is the idea that 'hanging in the balance' is supposed to be another crotch joke? Otherwise I really don't get it :(

I actually read the line as "Way to lighten the mood" and assumed Christine was being sarcastic!

Possibly Christine sneaked a silent incredulous pic of the original configuration of that little hallway dominance dance when Sarah was the one pinning Jareth to the wall, before realizing her outfit change. Also, no, costume does not unmanifest (check back to her first involuntary in-colour transformation which ends up with the temporary solution of pulling on a t-shirt over it), Sarah does not have Jareth's insta-wardrobe magical skillset. So yes she had to physically undress and to add to the awkward, hand Jareth back the pendant later.

The phrasing that is making Sarah grimace is first, for a gag reaction, that "dancing around your mutual boners" summing-up, which is entirely too vivid and crude, albeit recently à-propos, an image; and the second time is Liz's definite un-minimizing of her significant actions in the moment of dramatic crux.

Oh, I see -- I'd managed to confuse the order of the speech bubbles again (really not fluent in the conventions of graphic novel-telling, alas :( )

I'm now wondering what would happen if she didn't hand back the pendant (I'm not quite clear on its manifestation status when she's not wearing it -- does it exist physically in Jareth's realm, or just in potentia as it were?)
Would it magically teleport out of her dressing-table drawer to appear round her neck?

We've yet to see Sarah actually manifest the pendant ex nihilo for herself - her accidental Goblin Queen makeovers have happened whilst wearing it already on loan from Jareth, or, latest occurence, with the item in question (and one other thing :D ) pressed up between them. During the ballroom her dress started to manifest some kind of glittery ghost/mirror of the sigil but Jareth still had the original on (under the tux). HE can most likely summon the physical bling piece back to him whenever wherever (as Luna surmised, afterwards).

"Which is wrong as a friend and a period piece character!"

*ramble ramble*
Thinking back on the early chapters I get the feeling you tried to keep Christine's character periode piece-ish-eeer once, but ... I presume  storytelling-wise it didn't really work for you? The discrepancy between 21st century living and early 20th century attitude is a joke that wears thin after a while and comes with its own problems, I guess...! Still, I can't help but wonder how some of the story parts would look like if Christine would still be the original ingenue.
(Manga geek: "We would have a Yamato Nadeshiko & Tsundere GND!")

Yeah, you're right - Christine originally had some non-native-speaker speech patterns and that slight misadjustment to the modern world, but it did get in the way of snappy dialogue beats and her relatablity, I found. (She had more of Pratchett's version's airheadedness, too...) I suppose I could've made more of an effort there...

*sigh* And this, Christine, is why Sarah finds Erik to in some ways be a better friend than you. Christine is an unapologetic shipper for Sarah and Jareth, whereas Erik's thoughts on that ship are...not so unanimous.

Kris' Cheshire Cat grin as she slowly builds the foundation of the joke is just grand.

I'm sure we all have/had a friend like Chris in the last two panels.

Just so long as it doesn't get (too much) out of hand.

Christine, I would disapprove, but puns and wordplay are a family tradition for me, and you snuck that string of them up on Sarah quite expertly...
You blonde Gallic troll.
This reminds me of that friend-vs-best friends thing that goes around the interwebs.
Poor Sarah.

Brilliant dick jokes aside, I hope Elizabeth and Christine can help Sarah through this.
Her nervousness and hesitance are certainly justified, given the circumstances, and some insight and support would make a big difference. There's nothing like a good sisterhood to get you through a rough patch in a relationship.
