Lifting her head off the pillow, craning to hear as the vague sounds of voices drifted in from the other room. Climbing out of bed, Esmerelda couldn’t even remember falling asleep. Dark outside, she could see a thin slither of candle light coming from under the neighbouring door. Going to open it, stopping, her hand hovering over the handle, listening intently, realising that she was the subject of their discussion.
“I don’t know Charley, I didn’t sign up to take care of this girl, I wasn’t even planning to stay in London that long.” Exclaimed Riles, rubbing the back of his neck.
“You brought her back Riles. That makes her your responsibility.” Said Charley, sitting calmly in an arm chair.
Riles knowing that look only too well, trying to turn away.
