We are all complex beings that have many versions of ourselves that we switch between, often subconsciously:
Angry Self. Happy Self. Horny Self. Driven Self. Content Self. Cranky Self.
"You" are many flavors of the original you.
In acting school, one of the first thing Actors do is learn to understand their different selves and channel those selves to become characters.
Understanding your “different selves” can be very useful for your own self-control. Simply acknowledging the presence of a specific self is a source of power.
Merely saying, “Lazy Me is here right now”, can help you decide to switch out of that self. Saying “OK - I am Work Me now.” can get you off of the couch.
It’s a simple, and admittedly strange, advice. But I think you’ll find success as I have with it.
It’s far less dramatic than Phoenix turning into a fire eagle or Mystique becoming a lusty version of herself.
But still is quite effective at getting one to study, fold their clothes or take out the garbage.
