Welcome to this new series of interviews: TypoTalks! In th upcoming months I will be publishing interviews with various deviants active in the Typography community on dA. Though not entirely focused on Typography, we also talk about Design and Art, I hope to create more awareness for this tool and artform :)

We are starting today with an interview of Knarfart. He has been on deviantArt for over 3 years now and since then been submitting to the Design and Art galleries here.

You can also find him on his website www.knarf-art.com, twitter knarf_art and facebook.

His style use Photo Manipulation, Mixed Media and Vector elements, to create something unique. Throughout his gallery you will find works that carry calmness and modernity, that show great skill and talent.

The Inteview!

Please introduce yourself!
Knarfart: Hi I'm Frank van der Hak aka Knarf Art from the Netherlands and born on 17-11-1989.
And I'm a graphic designer.

How did you get into art and design?
Knarfart: My dad is a graphic design so since I was young I came in contact with designing so my dad inspired me to become a graphic designer.

Where do you find inspirations for new works?
Knarfart: That could be everything during our daily life and sometimes it's also emotions.

When you create a new artwork, how do you start?
Knarfart: I start by thinking of something and kinda make it in my head and than make it on the computer or sometimes I'm just looking for pictures and get an idea.

How important is the sketching process to you?
Knarfart: I dont really use sketching I do that in my head.

What advise would you give someone who wants to get into design, typography or art?
Knarfart: Make sure you have passion for it.

Do you think it helps young artists to join online communities?
Knarfart: Yes it really helpe's because people will comment your work and from that you can learn.

Do you prefer to create artworks that stand on their own or artworks that form a series?
Knarfart: It depend most of the times I do single works, Because sometimes I'm not inspired enough to do a whole series.

You work a lot with Photo Manipulations, both for Typography and Illustration: What fascinates you about this Medium/Technique?
Knarfart: I dont know, I just love making it, it is my passion and I couldn't live without it.

Is there any medium or style you haven't tried so far, but would love to play with at some point?
Knarfart: 3D, i dont know how the programs work, but I would love to look in to it sometime when I have time.

"You learn from your mistakes." Have you ever experienced that in your creative process?
Knarfart: No not really, because you know what is really a mistake the judgement of an art work is based on an opinion so I guess nothing can be wrong as long it's alright in your own eyes.

Do you think Typography is a merely a tool or also an artform that can stand on its own?
Knarfart: It's definitely am artform of it's own.

What's your 3 favourite pieces from your own work?
Knarfart: Carpe noctem, Helpless, shooting star

What do you think about the Typography & Design community here on dA and being part of it?
Knarfart: I think it's great people share it with eachother, feels good to be a part of that

Please share some links to your other sites / Portfolio, Flickr, twitter, facebook etc.
