I once ran off an entire roll of HP5 and got not one flash of lightning, so bravo. Love this shot.

Capturing lightning is mostly luck and guess work I think, this time I had some luck and made the right guess :)

I know how hard those are to do. Aim your camera somewhere and it pretty much guarantees that lightening will strike everywhere but there. Well done!

Thank you.

Never had much luck with lightning but when this storm hit last night I could not resist having a go, this was a 6 second exposure and there was a lot of lightning around so it was hard to miss. Got a few good shots with this one the best, only used Tmax400 as that was what was in the camera, pulled the processing down to ISO 200, it's pretty much all guess work when it comes to shooting lightning though.

Pretty much the same as shooting fireworks, if you have no idea where they are going to go off.

Very true , I have never really photographed fireworks much though

I think next time I do that, I am going to go up Mill Mountain, shoot them from above with a telephoto lens, and see how that looks.

I have. The hardest part about doing that here is finding a place to shoot them from without telephone lines all over the place ruining your photos.

That goes for any sort of shooting I find, no matter what there will be a power line in the way some where :(

I think that must be part of the decision making process wen they decide where to put power lines. "Now where can we put these so the will ruin as many photos as possible?"

There are times I get the feeling that this country is grid lined with HT power lines 1Km apart, I find that even more amazing considering there are no people here, you could drive for days and never see any one but if you close your eyes for just a second you will run into a power pole or Pylon.  I am assuming it would be worse in the US with 10 times the population.
