Thanks so much for the fav!  "Wow", I beleive you described what I did.  A "Wow"  goes to you a your gallery also!!! I loved your depiction or "capturing"  the auroraborialis!  Splendid job!!!  Now, for the Wow you gave me on the peice "Flight of a Billion Wings", a lot of thought it to be Fractal Art;  I wondering if you thought it was or not fractal art?

I am very flattered that the my artworks named:  “Flight of a Billon Wings” was considered to be computer generated by an mathematical algorithm.  It was totally done within a period of about 5 hours and 35 minutes.  I selected parts of wings from other butterflies from a wallpaper _so_many_butterflies” that , I got off of BING images.   I rotated the pieces or selected parts and started to “replace” all negative space first.  Secondly I juxtaposed selected areas to areas not near to the selected area.  Thirdly I also kept in mind the placement was to be complementary in color to where I placed it.  Each section was also stroked in a black outline to give a more finished look as well as to incapsulate each section I chose to “construct” in a different position.

The methodology I used is similar to how a algorithm that produces fractal art works.  Taking a simple shape,  or complex, (depending on the parameters within the “element” of what is chosen),  and then put it through a “process”, (function of the algorithm),  to repeat certain repetitions to generate designs or shapes that the viewer may or not consider to be interesting.

At any time as I went through “my interaction”  with the art piece “I chose” different  techniques or possibilities of what to do with each selection and replacement of each element.

As compared to  computer generated art there would be more of a “sameness” to the fractal design.  I again am flatted  to be told what I did was what computer could do, . . .  I would really like to see if a computer could come up with something original on purpose; instead of by accidentally being found by a non interactive viewer who just passively watches a process.

Definition of Fractal Art according to Wikipedia:

Fractal art is a form of algorithmic art created by calculating fractal objects and representing the calculation results as still images, animations, and media. Fractal art developed from the mid-1980s onwards.   It is a genre of computer art and digital art which are part of new media art. The Julia set and Mandelbrot sets can be considered as icons of fractal art.

Fractal art (especially in the western world) is not drawn or painted by hand. It is usually created indirectly with the assistance of fractal-generating software, iterating through three phases: setting parameters of appropriate fractal software; executing the possibly lengthy calculation; and evaluating the product. In some cases, other graphics programs are used to further modify the images produced. This is called post-processing. Non-fractal imagery may also be integrated into the artwork.

I am old-school and preferr to use computers as a tool to create rather then let an algorithm alter or manipulate what I have fun doing myself.   I feel, and react to "the process", as the process effects me I become the "affecter" in the process on how I add effects or subtract effects to it.  To watch an algorithm and then say awe-huh just looses the appreciation factor.  AS you aprrecated my creation by saying "WOW", as no computer program  could ever say , . . .  I say back to you with great appreciate to you for the Fav and for you being you!!!!

I don't know much about fractal art at all - so thanks for enlightening me on it. It sounds very interesting but not a lot like something I'd be into (I was never a sharp math student) but its great to hear of an art form that caters to people with different and brilliant minds. Art is for everyone! All I could think was "wow" when I saw your piece. I was definitely overwhelmed in the best way possible - by colors, design, emotion, and talent.

Thank you for the compliment and all the favorites, I really appreciate it! I'm glad that you think it is a great painting - it is not the most realistic - but it is my adaption. I've only seen the Northern lights twice and I love them. In Fairbanks you must get them almost the time, don't you? That sounds like a wild adventure of a life you have. What an experience! Bless!
