“Be that as it may. You're still blasted insane. Bringing that...berserker? What were you thinking?”
The strange voices filtered painfully through Tammel's head as he lay, face-down on a bunk with just enough padding on it to keep it from being a metal slab. He couldn't move very well—his hands were fastened behind his back—and his head ached miserably. After an abortive attempt to sit up, he lay still and listened to the voices.
“Not unusual to take captives,” the second voice said. “Certainly happened before.”
“Yes,” the first one said, “as slaves! Tanhide workers and docile females, certainly. Not insane berserkers who somehow kill over twenty-five Jahnziin with a metal stick!”
