Dawid Loubser
South Africa
Current Residence: South Africa
Favourite genre of music: Electronica (Trance, Ambient House, Experimental, Downtempo) and Jazz
Operating System: Mac OS X
Shell of choice: Bash
Working with monochrome is my favourite medium. With so very little effort, and using wonderful, simple mechanical cameras that just "get out of the way", I can record my visions of the things around me with a degree of authenticity - because the images are captured in a physical medium that does not lie - and a tonal rendering that suits my vision just right.

I am unfortunately between darkrooms currently (one of the perils of compact, city living) and have had to either go mad, or attempt to embrace the digital medium for a while again. After many iterations, I have managed to develop a process in the open-source RawTherapee application (running in Linux, of course) to produce the slightly non-linear tonal response I so enjoy from my film work. Three recent images that I've posted illustrate this:
  • Listening to: Co-workers non-touch-typing
  • Reading: The Algorithm Design Manual
  • Playing: Biosphere's n-plants album
  • Eating: Macaroni
  • Drinking: Decent Coffee

thanx for joining the rawtherapee-users group! ;)

My pleasure! Though I prefer the workflow and UI of darktable, the RAW demosaicing in RawTherapee is undeniably superior in all respects - what it does with fine detail borders on the impossible for a Bayer sensor.

don't forget to try the new noise reduction: really effective and in these days speed is even improving :)
i use rawtherapee since 2007 and it's my favourite :)
i've tried darktable about two years ago but i didn't like it so much because at that time lots of feature were missing; anyway it seems it evolved a lot so i think i'll try a new version these days ;)

I just wanted to say that I visited your gallery, and I found some really nice photos here :)
Next time when I'll write a new art feature journal, I think I'll include one of your works, because I think you really deserve more attention :aww: :)
Have a nice day! :)
