Go ahead then. Sing along.
(Fun fact: I used this song to defend John Denver's music. It happened during the winter semester in college last year when we were assigned to compare music lyrics to emotions and feelings they brought out. I suggested lots of John Denver songs, and when we got to emotions of sadness, I mentioned Darcy Farrow when a wiseguy on my team snorted, "You really like John Denver, don't ya?"
When I asked him if there was anything wrong with that, he answered, "John Denver isn't what I'd call a balanced musician. He doesn't reall balance his good mood and tragic mood songs with anything...dark."
To which I replied, "Really? Darcy Farrow is about a woman so sweet and beautiful that all the town adores her, especially her fiance. Then on their wedding, she falls off her horse, breaks her neck, and dies. Then to top it all off, her loving fiance can't handle the heartbreak of losing her, so he picks up a gun and blows his own head off." When his eyes went wide in shock, I asked, "Dark enough for you?")
I know, right? I am blessed to be friends of the family... and losing John was tragic. His music speaks volumes -- hands down one of my favorites. Thank you so much for sharing this. A lot of my work is inspired by him -- did you notice that by any chance? In other words, what made you type that on my profile? :D
Also ich bin begeistert!
