Toon Art Style Experiment- Seeking Critique by PhantomSkyler Toon Art Style Experiment- Seeking Critique by PhantomSkyler
Heya guys. This is a bit of an experiment I've been mulling after a talk with a friend. He gave me some harsh realities about how my art was stagnating, and how I was never going to improve and expand if I kept using "this mediocre faux anime style" I've been tooling. He suggested I either double down  on the anime style but work to make it look more authentic, or craft my own unique style, something simple and cartoony but visually appealing.

This is me attempting the latter advice. ^^ I've been doodling a lot trying to find a style that I like and I think I've gotten a good idea with these pics of a random goth girl, Batman, and my favorite RWBY girls Weiss and Yang. XD

But there's always room for improvement, and I'd like honest feedback. Outside of commissions (which I'll be using with my faux anime style unless asked otherwise) Most of my future personal art will be drawn in this stylized toon style. ^^ So any helpful feedback of where I can improve/tweak it would be helpful. I'm not 100% satisfied with their eyes and faces but I think they're a good start, what do you think?

So a goth, a superhero, and two girls with a rapier and shotgun gauntlets walk into a bar...I don't know the rest, but I can give an art critique to the best of my ability since I can't draw for crap.

What I'll say here is that the lines on the characters are a lot thinner than your previous pieces, making them stand out more within the outlines, IMHO. The heads and faces also seem a lot smaller, which I think works in this experiment given that my artist friends and colleagues tell me that drawing faces are pretty tough.

This is what I can offer, because as a writer by trade and someone who only got really far with stick figure doodles in High School, it's the most I can offer. Looks good, regardless.

I love how you make a very natural looking body for the ladies, though your Batman doesn't seem to be one of strength and power.  I would avoid giving him such a long neck. The broader shoulders of the male body tend to shorten the length of the neck, especially on someone as well proportioned as Batman.

Personally I'd say in order to improve it is wiser to work on the basics, rather than forcing a style upon oneself.
You will develope a style as you keep practicing.
That said experimenting is mostly a good thing, just do not force a particular art style upon yourself.

As for this piece I feel a disconnect between body and Face. They just do not fit completely well together as the Head ignores anatomy, whereas you did a fairly good Job on the anatomy of the body.

Hope this helps! (I do not mean to offend, though I sound harsh at times)

I feel as though the ears on Batman's costume could be a little longer. Other than that it looks geat.

I can't find any glaring flaws in this new art style. Having that said, I think I'd also need to see this "doubled down anime style" you mentioned before I made any final judgments.
