This is drawn on A3 paper in black ball point pen.
It is the Angel of Grief, a 1894 sculpture by William Wetmore Story which serves as the grave stone of the artist and his wife at the Protestant Cemetery, Rome.

Such a beautiful and powerful sculpture

Well, I got to say, It´s really good! You gave life to the statue by making an realistic view of the wings. I really liked the the hand in the top draw, looks so gracefull. In the second draw the lines are not simmetrical, but it´s really good. Very expressive! I like it! =D

I just had a look through your gallery, your Ailish comic pages in blue ball point are astounding!
I'm afraid my little angel up there pales in comparison to your pen work :D

I first saw it on the cover of the 'EP' album by Evanescence, and fell in love with it. Angel's are always depicted as superior, enlightend, heavenly creatures. But this statue has a powerful impact by showing it's more human, emotional side. Because of this I didn't want to draw her as a statue, so I drew her hair and wings more realisticaly, showing the form and texture of the feathers, rather than the smoothness of the original stone. (they probably did look like this to start with, but after over a 100 years of weathering, the texture has worn away) I think this adds a much more pleasing look to them, but at the same time adds more heartache and sorrow to her because it makes her look more real. As a friend of mine said 'you can almost 'feel' the grief coming from her, I can picture her shaking as she cries' x
