Mehndi - The Bridal Decoration

Mehndi - The distinctly oriental practice as a part of wedding ceremony and many other auspicious occasions. This one features some of its intricate designs on the palms of my cousins. Call it hand modeling :)

Interestingly there are different designs. Indian designs usually fill up the entire palm while the arabic counterparts do not. It is a common practice to embed the initials or the name of bride within the design and tease the bridegroom to locate it.

Categorised this piece under the closest equivalent- Tattoo.

wow how do you get them on? with a needle or brush?
PhaedrusSpeaks's avatar
well the experts do it with a paste of Henna (Mehndi) with delicate hands. The process runs into hours at times.
