Biss Chuck Mining Co.
Acrylics on canvas 30" x 54". I painted this imaginary view of Pittsburgh in a semi-primitive style for my father-in-law's enclosed porch in Penn Hills probably 30 years ago It has never moved until he died just before Thanksgiving this year. I brought it home and finally got a photo of it.
He lived to the ripe old age of 93, by himself in his home, up until 2 weeks before his death. My oldest daughter called him "Biss chuckles" when she first began to talk (40 years ago) and so everyone in the family called him "Biss" from then on. Biss had a machine shop in his basement and made heat sinks and other parts for a friend of his that sold mining equipment replacement parts. That's the name of the imaginary mining equipment company in the title and the building in the lower right hand corner of the painting.

A lot has happened in the last month. I retired from my job of 38+ years as an OR tech/nurse. I sold a painting and donated a painting to the UPMC Shadyside Operating room for permanent display in their hallways where the lounge and locker rooms are located. It's hard to believe I no longer have to get up at 4:30am 5 days a week and go to work. Instead, I'm walking downstairs to my studio and painting. I have stacks of blank canvases and new tubes of paint to work with so now I plan to stay busy in the studio and out of my wife's way.

My painting  GW bridge-11-16-15 was in a show called DaBurgh in June. Framehouse-Task-Gallery-DaBurgh-exhibit-06-2017. Then I sold the painting to one of my co-workers in the OR when I retired.
I'm trying to get used to this being at home thing, but it has been weird. I'm posting photos of the show and the OR where my paintings were hanging.

Thanks for the fav and comment! Also, I enjoyed your Slip Disc silk screen series. Very nice technically and I like the 1970s magazine illustration quality as well.

You're welcome and thank you for the notice of the slip disc series. That was a long labor of love that never got completed. My plans may have been overly ambitious at the time. Once I left the academic environment, it was hard to get the time and materials to continue printmaking (even though I taught printmaking later, the time was spent on the student's work, not mine).

I know what you mean. There never seems to be enough time any more. I've never tried print making but look forward to giving it a try some day. I live near a lithography studio that I've visited a few times for exhibitions. Beautiful work.
