Description
The Pennsylvania Railroad's GP9 locomotives, designated EFS-17m in their internal system, were a versatile and popular diesel-electric locomotive model built by EMD (Electro-Motive Division of General Motors). They were used for general purpose duties, including freight, switching, and even some passenger service. Over 4,000 GP9s were built between 1954 and 1963, with the Pennsylvania Railroad purchasing 270 of them.
