PRR RF-16/sharknose

Design: The RF-16 was built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works. The design was inspired by the T1 class steam locomotive built by Baldwin for the PRR.

Performance: The RF-16 was known as an excellent "lugger" and was used to haul heavy coal and ore.

Horsepower: The RF-16 had 1,600 horsepower.

Wheel arrangement: The RF-16 had a B-B wheel arrangement.

Throttle: The RF-16 had an air-powered throttle.

Production: Baldwin built 160 RF-16s, including 109 cab-equipped A units and 51 cabless booster B units.

Use: The RF-16 was used for freight service.

Competition: The RF-16 competed with the Electro-Motive's F series and the American Locomotive Company's (Alco) FA.
