Since I was a little kid I've always been fascinated by ballet. My parents couldn't afford me dancing and I was well too shy to give it a try even if they would have had the money. I did though practice in my own spare time by standing on my toes, twirling and so on. I even had a poster in a golden frame at the end of my bed of a ballerina bowing. She was what I saw when I woke up and when I went to bed.
When I got a little older I soon realised I wanted to see the Bolshoi ballet perform Swan lake. I dreaded it on tv, I can't watch ballet for a second on tv but live, it devours me. I've seen Cullbergbaletten which is a contemporary ballet company in Sweden - it's been so-so.
Then I got the news that the Russian ballet was coming to my town, I booked without blinking an eye. It was worth it. A dream came true yesterday. I would have never thought it would - nothing is impossible
With my bohemian dress and long dreads I truly looked out of place at the arena. I think the woman next to me got all her stereotypes crushed, she glanced at me several times during the show when I was the most absorbed in it (leaned forward, misty eyes and open mouth )! It was beyond my dreams! The only thing I can complain about is the people handling the light spots - seriously people, stop dreaming and do a proper job :anger: At one time when the "joker" came out to bow when the curtains were down they missed to lit him up
I asked Gonte to snatch a poster for me after the show. Initially I had thought about taking one of those out on the town but I saw other people snatching them too, I got one with the cast list
To make my day even better I was called a hippie, when we were going to this hamburger place, by a chick who apparently didn't want the "hippies" to get before her in line so she rushed in and then lied when Gonte asked if she was standing in line I don't mind being called a hippie, thanks for the compliment you know
Why I love ballerinas
It wasn't until a little while ago that I could actually write down WHY I am so fascinated, below I share my thoughts:
I'm inspired by ballerinas because of the discipline and strength they possess. I am in awe of the work that lies behind each step and each jump. The precision behind every move is beyond words. What they can do with their body and what they go through during the years to make that happen - inspire me.
The power and strength a ballerina possess, specially a prima ballerina assoluta, is something I would love to possess too and channel. The fierceness and fighting spirit within them is something I want to bring forth within me.
I want to be my life's prima ballerina assoluta.
