Time for another journal entry~

There’s one thing that has been bothering me for quite some time now, so I wanted to mention it:
I’m very sorry for not really replying to comments… I’m not sure whether replies are expected or not, but I often feel bad for not writing anything in return.

My main problem is that my English has been getting more and more awkward after I graduated from school and don’t take English lessons any more ´____` I’m fine with understanding textbook-English but it’s hard for me to understand certain comments that are written using slang – then I simply don’t know if I’ve understood them right and what a proper reply might be. Maybe there’s some hidden irony I didn’t get?
And I can’t think of many different ways to say ‘thank you’ ._.
Also I’m afraid of sounding rude, when writing formal English >_<
I’m very embarrassed of making mistakes in my writing, so I always check dictionaries and stuff while writing… which takes time and I often end up not replying at all X_x
This goes for commenting deviations and conversations as well… It’s hard for me to express my thoughts and most of the time I just give up and don’t write anything at all |’D Which also might look very rude XD" But at the same time I don’t want to bother anyone with bad grammar X_x

I’m not sure how to handle this situation. Do you mind people making mistakes in their writing? Or is it fine as long as you can understand them at all?
Or do you have any suggestions on improving one’s English skills?

I really do not mind errors in replies. I understand well enough when you reply. Don't feel bad over it!

I suggest, if you want to better your English or whatever, maybe keeping up with English-written news articles online. Reading them daily or weekly to keep yourself sharp.

Aww~ thank you

I've noticed that reading really helps a lot :3 I'm reading English fanfictions every day. Of course that's different from news articles, but it's also different from spoken language as used in many comments @_@ Another problem is that just reading does not really help me when it comes to writing myself. I've tried writing fanfictions myself, but found it rather difficult... However, when I think about it, it might be a good idea, it just takes some time to learn...?

Fancition is actually another good source I didn't think of! It uses a lot more slang than regular news blather, but, fanfic writers can slip up on grammar a lot more. As for the reading to writing issue.. I do this for French, so.. Do you have a German to English dictionary? (You are German, right? I forget sometimes TT~TT) They aren't good for total ref, but they are really handy with some phrases. c:
Languages take time, yeah.. I wish they took less, though. I'm open to help you HOWEVER you need.

Ah~ that reminds me of some poorly written fics which always leave me very confused XD Every time I notice a mistake, I'm not sure if it really is one or I just didn't know about that piece of grammar XD

So you learn French? :D How do you like it?

I just checked the dictionary I have, but it only translates single words ___` But never mind! I've asked a friend to write to me in English, when we use msn, this might help as well :3

And yes, you're right, I'm from Germany, though I'm not German by ethnicity and had to learn German as a second language XD Haha~ I love different languages, that's why it's so important to me to know English well :D

I really hate it when that happens D: Well, if it's any help, people who learn English as a second language/whatever tend to have far better grammar than native speakers. So, noticing the errors is actually good practice on your part! (:

I really enjoy it. I'm still learning, and I am not very good (at all), but I'm REALLY loving it. c: I'm really struggling with the genders of words, but I'm trying to get better.

Hm. There is a good series of pocket dictionaries that's, at least, good for some basic phrases. And knowing those makes it easier to string together similar phrases. The company is Berlitz, but I don't know if they still print. ):

I thought so! And I think I recall reading in one of your deviations about that. Where are you from originally, if I may ask? I am also willing to help you with English. If you ever have trouble with something in particular, I can help translate for you. It is also hard, even for English-speakers, to reply to English comments, sometimes, because there are only so many ways to thank someone for a comment. ):

I love French too, it's such a beautiful language *_* Though I find it very difficult as well XD Learning the genders of words is always hard ___` That's what I like about English, there aren't any genders XD I always get the genders wrong in French |'D I also hate the conjugations, since there are so many forms D: This too is so much easier in English <3

And thank you for your advice concerning the dictionary ^^ Also thank you very much for your kind offer :3 If I ever come across something I really don't understand, I'll ask you *_*

Originally I'm from Russia :D So that's my real mother tongue~ I just don't use it nowadays, so I don't have any practice __`

It is really pretty... I wasn't even aware that words COULD have genders until a few years ago. So confusing!!

Cool! I've never met a Russian person... xD!! So, how many languages do you know?

In fact, that's what I find so interesting about languages :D While for you it was something completely new to learn that words can have genders, for me it was something really bizarre to find out that there are languages where this does not matter at all *_* This is also why I love comparing languages for example by reading the same books or listening to the same songs in several languages and to think about how differently they express the same meaning :D

Mmh, it's hard to tell how many languages I know XD Because I feel like I know none perfectly ___` Russian is my mother tongue, but I moved to Germany at the age of seven, so my main language is German now. I've started learning English at the age of five, but only studied it at school, so it's far from being perfect. Then I've studied French for 7 years at school, but my French is dreadful |D I've also studied Latin for 3 years and Japanese for about 1 year. But I don't know wheter this can be considered as knowing a language XD
I'd love to continue studying all of those languages (except for Latin XD), but I've got only little time because of university ____`

What about you? What languages do you know? :3
