Perna Studios is very excited to announce our very first trading card set entitled Classic Mythology (for release in April of 2012). This set will focus on 6 timeless Classic Mythologies that we have all come to love and enjoy during our lifetime. The mythologies spotlighted in this set are Greek, Norse, Egyptian, Celtic, Japanese and Hindu. We have an impressive list of artists involved on this set working on both base/promo cards and sketch cards.

PLEASE, NEGATIVE CRITIQUES ARE NOT WELCOME. THESE ARE ARTISTS INTERPRETATIONS. DESCRIPTIONS ARE BASED ON VARIOUS STORIES THAT ALL DIFFER FROM VARIOUS SOURCES. THANK YOU.

This gorgeous painting of the Norse God Loki is done by the lovely artist Soni-Alcorn-Hender. :iconbohemianweasel: This beautiful preview promo card will be available for purchase as part of a 5 card chase set in January 2012. Soni really outdid herself on this piece.

Norse Mythology - Loki is the son of Fárbauti and Laufey, and the brother of Helblindi and Býleistr. By the jötunn (giantess) Angrboða, Loki is the father of Hel, the wolf Fenrir, and the world serpent Jörmungandr. By his wife Sigyn, Loki is the father of Nari or Narfi. And with the stallion Svaðilfari as the father, Loki gave birth - in the form of a mare - to the eight-legged horse Sleipnir. Loki's relation with the gods varies by source. Loki sometimes assists the gods and sometimes causes problems for them. Loki is a shape shifter and in separate incidents he appears in the form of a salmon, mare, seal, a fly, and possibly an elderly woman. Loki's positive relations with the gods end with his role in engineering the death of the god Baldr. The Prose Edda contain numerous references to the death of Baldr as both a great tragedy to the Æsir and a harbinger of Ragnarök. Loki is eventually bound 'to the sharpest rocks by the cold intestines of his dead son' by the gods as punishment. In both the Poetic Edda and the Prose Edda, the goddess Skaði is responsible for placing a huge serpent above him while he is bound. The serpent drips venom from above him that Loki's wife Sigyn collects into a bowl. However, she must empty the bowl when it is full, and the venom that drips in the mean time causes Loki to writhe in pain, thereby causing earthquakes. With the onset of Ragnarök, Loki is foretold to slip free from his bonds and to fight against the gods among the forces of the jötnar, at which time he will encounter the god Heimdallr and the two will slay each other.

Though some instances tell the death of Balder differently. For example, in one version Odin sent Loki to kill him, because they needed a god to succeed after Ragnarok, and all would be slain, so Loki killed Balder for them, to keep him in the underworld until Ragnarok.

This is one of the best representations of Loki that I've ever seen! I especially love how the artist drew Loki's bonds as his son's innards - most artists choose to overlook that detail. Amazing job! :D
