I'm pretty pleased with how his has turned out, and in my opinion this is now the most realistic drawing I've ever done and one step closer to my ultimate goal of 'hyperrealism'. The combination of charcoal for the darks, cartridge paper and that the subject is an old man has made it much easier to get the realism in this drawing.

And although I've drawn an old man before ('ian mckellen'), this is actually my first real try at drawing a really old person. As ian mckellen although old, did not have to many wrinkles, which this old man has plenty of. And as I've said before, the easiest way to make a drawing look realistic is to draw an old person because of all the wrinkles and folds. The real test for me now is to try and keep this level of realism in my other drawings. This will be a lot tougher to achieve, especially in young females who have very smooth skin.

Here are some of my other graphite drawings.

The hyper-realism you achieve here is amazing! you display a master of graphite pencil techniques. The realism here is almost overwhelming, given that all the details are much more exaggerated than this would appear in a photograph. Its almost as if you were drawing a sculpture!, because it looks more life-like than actual life.
I would just like to praise your use of dark's in all your drawings, its something I really struggle with. What pencil do you use for your darkest spots? There are some artists who can achieve this level of darkness with 2B pencils, but when I try the same method I have trouble achieving the same darkness. When the pencil is applied this dark it leaves a glimmery shine that is rather distracting when you see it in person, and it always leaves me feeling like I have done something wrong. Any advice on this matter?

Great drawing!

Although this is not a recognisable famous face like many of your sketches, it definitely deserves its spot alongside them. The facial lines, scars and wrinkles are beautifully rendered and insinuate the old man has his fair share of stories to tell.

I like that he retains a brightness in his eyes which contrast superbly with the lines on his face - it suggests that there's still a lot of life in him despite his advanced years.

The interaction between his skin and hand is spot on - not only does it look technically correct, it goes a long way to communicating the mood of the drawing - it suggests that he's troubled or lost in thought.

As ever, your lines are immaculately clean, your shading excellent, and attention to minute detail commendable. Superb piece.

Love this drawing in part because it is not a famous face but full of character. What you have achieved with the simplest of tools is amazing.

Thanks again, your kind words made my day. As your one of the few artists on DA whose drawings i look at constantly to get tips (and they still blow my mind) as Your ability to draw water is just mind boggling.
