Color Wheel

this is something I made because... well.. I need it...

I always have a color wheel on my wall behind my screens, to keep track of the colors, to come up with color schemes traditionally and digitally, to view complementary colors blah blah blah. recently my entire house was repainted, and my color wheel got ruined when I removed it from the wall.

I was about to print it again when I realized... it was shit, I needed a new one, and after hours and hours of searching the web and failing miserably at finding the perfect color wheel I just decided to make a new one.

basically works like this

the main colors are 100% saturation and 100% brightness. the hues are more abundant on the red/orange and blue/green sectiopns because I use those a lot and I like a wider range there. from the main color to the middle, it loses saturation until turning into pure white, giving a nice selection of pseudo-pastel and vivid colors. from the main color to the outer part of the wheel, loses saturation, and brightness at the same time, for a desaturated-low value color selection and all kinds of grey tones.

divided the wheel in four sections, bright, dark, cold and warm colors repectively.

on the corner, the color #aaaaaa, is my "mid-tone", it's usually the color a set my canvas to whenever I draw and paint.

to the right, there are the greyscale and hue bars.

the hue bar shows the hues used on the color wheel, so I can easily search for them on the color picker in Photoshop. also with a bar of each color of the hue in greys.

above it, it's the greyscale or value bar, divided on the tones I use for dark, light, and vivid paintings, with each of the values of the range named. to the right of it, there are three colored bars with the letters OMC beneath them, these stands for "Overlay", "Multiply" and "Color" type of layers, to keep track of how bright the colors are for these types of layers on each value.

NOTES

the whole image does not have black, the darkest tone is the background, and that's #111111, which is a really dark grey, but not black.

the greyscale/value bar does not have black or white either, I don't shade with either one of them because it fucks up the colors when I add them to my greyscales.

I hope this helps others who are looking for a wheel with a broad selection of tones as well, it's very hard to find a one as complete.

download it and use it at your will I don't mind, it's a damn colorwheel, not a painting of a raptor shooting lightning guns while mounting a fire-breathing dragon with chicken wings and platypus tail.

keep in mind that this is made for ME, it meets MY needs perfectly and I have printed on 30"+ size on my wall so the tiny numbers are perfectly visible for me.

ah yes, my only daily deviation ever :D I still have this printed big and hanging from the wall directly behind my computer screens ever since I made it ^^; that is the reason I made it to be honest. You should try it!

Goddamn, this is perhaps the best colour wheel I've yet come across, ever. I was about to make my own colour wheel for my own reference as a wallpaper on my comp, but I don't think I need to now :) You sir are awesome!

I always seem to look for a decent color wheel for reference and now I think I've found the best one.
Thank you for making this! :meow:

Of course you realize, you need to draw a raptor shooting lightning guns while mounting a fire-breathing dragon with chicken wings and platypus tail now.
