My most recent favs...if I could put the focus on Senecal, I would. You know why? He is awesome. |
I started to get much more serious about making art in 2007. I had been painting acrylic and doing some collage until then. Around 2007 discovered my love for watercolor and liquid acrylic inks. I also realized that I loved playing with various ways to apply the paint. I also discovered the myriad of surfaces. So this sparked my "Watercolor Experiments" series. Those works were truly experiments with colors, mediums, surface and application. I also discovered through these experiments the importance of finishing the work with UVS varnishes. Not only to extend the life of the work, but to give the work a finished look, and increase the chroma on the already intense color. This ran its course through 2009. I had the chance to show these works in several locations in Columbus. In the latter part of 2009 I began to work more with various acrylic mediums on stretched canvas. Working on canvas has been more of a challenge to me with the mediums and application I have used in the past. I have also gotten more into the texture of the work, as well as the surface finish. I try to find mediums to use under the paint layers that will cause an intensely glossy, almost wet-looking, surface after the varnish is applied. My goal is to make the work look like textured glass. The texture comes from building on the surface before applying very thin layers of paint. Occasionally I will use grainier, more organic textures, such as iron oxide, micas and glass bead medium. I know many traditional artists say it, but the work looks better in person. Thanks for checking it out! -Peggy |
