Vortigern accepts Hengist and Horsa

I’m really pleased to announce a new commissioned project for Sean Poage, Author's ‘Arthurian Age’ book series.

This scene (Chapter One) depicts the ill-fated arrival of the Germanic brothers Hengist and Horsa, leading, according to legend, to the fall of Vortigern, King of the Britons, and the beginnings of the Anglo-Saxon settlements following Rome’s abandonment of the British Isles in the early 5th Century.

The beauty of Sean’s writing is that he places the Arthurian legends firmly in their historical context, eschewing the common, anachronistic High Medieval setting in favour of the Migration Period (post-Rome). Sean is also a huge fan of Tolkien!

I’ll be creating c.20 black and white illustrations for Sean’s third book in the series, titled ‘Three Wicked Revelations’. This is a prequel to Book I: ‘The Retreat to Avalon’ and Book II: ‘The Strife of Camlann’.
