The Mirror of Galadriel

By peet
'Turning aside, she led them towards the southern slopes of the hill of Caras Galadhon, and passing through a high green hedge they came into an enclosed garden. No trees grew there, and it lay open to the sky. The evening star had risen and was shining with white fire above the western woods. Down a long flight of steps the Lady went into a deep green hollow, through which ran murmuring the silver stream that issued from the fountain on the hill. At the bottom, upon a low pedestal carved like a branching tree, stood a basin of silver, wide and shallow, and beside it stood a silver ewer.
With water from the stream Galadriel filled the basin to the brim, and breathed on it, and when the water was still again she spoke. 'Here is the Mirror of Galadriel, ' she said. 'I have brought you here so that you may look in it, if you will.'

And sometimes your pictures put me in mind more of the Pre-Raphaelites.

Well, yes. Then there is the PRB that I also really love (perhaps, if I had to say, the most); but I don't know, I find my work metamorphosing constantly (perhaps subtly to some) depending on subject matter and of course a particular phase I'm going through; and indeed - hopefully - with improving my technique as time goes on). Anyway to reiterate, thanks again for these perceptive comments. They've really made my day

This is lovely!

I wish you'd also post a higher-resolution/closeup view so we could see the details, but that's always a matter of each artist's preference.

Again, thank you. My older pieces are lower-resolution due to the fact that the scanners of ten years ago or so were not as sophisticated (and neither were my copying skills at the time). I suppose I could re-scan some or all of them, but again these being older pieces, I'm not sure I'm comfortable with the level of detail (or lack thereof) compared to that which I can achieve today - as you seem to discern. :-)

I like the colours in your works - they look a bit... ancient! :)

Thank you. I think watercolours may have a lot to do with that.
I adore this picture, I've been a fan of Lord of the rings for longer than I care to remember. I think you've captured this moment from the book perfectly
