Description
“Seriously, That's Illegal” is a cartoon series born out of irony—because in a nation obsessed with the legality of others, we often overlook the absurdities in our own backyard. In the United States, it's illegal in some places to collect rainwater, feed the homeless, or wear high heels without a permit—yet some shout the loudest about so-called ‘illegals’ crossing a border in search of safety or opportunity.
This project uses satire to hold up a mirror. Through playful exaggeration and true-to-life ridiculousness, each episode highlights the strange patchwork of American laws that govern the mundane, while inviting viewers to reflect on what we criminalize—and who we dehumanize in the process.
I’m not here to mock the law itself, but to question how law is wielded. Why are certain people labeled "illegal" while others’ violations are shrugged off as harmless quirks? Why is empathy so hard to legalize?
This is my protest. My punchline. My prayer for common sense, compassion, and a little laughter.
