Fieris almost glided over the ashes that remained from the fire. His dark pelt blended in with the black all around, and he kept his geode dim. He tasted the air, growled, and flicked his tail to signal the others to follow him. His was... grateful for the assistance, after the blaze. Unfortunately gratitude didn't mean much in the face of Hyperion's wrath. They had to be quick. Get in, find their prey, kill it, butcher it, and get out and to the Tarn and Safety.
There was only one creature in Leto big enough to keep the pack fed until the Glade recovered, though.

"I still think this is a terrible idea." Kestrel growled from his left, catching the same pungent scent as Fieris. "I get why, but damn, I'd rather hunt a whole colony of set than one of these bastards."

Fieris didn't blame him. Aharabos were hell to tackle--they damn things had diamonds growing out of them--and if this one had survived the fire that had swallowed the Argent Wilds, then it was probably as tough as Hyperion himself. "I know, but... this is the most efficient way. And Hyperion dislikes the wasteful."

"Pretty sure he hates all of us right now." Kestrel drawled, and his claws clicked against a log.

"Get down before the aharabos sees you." Fieris sighed.

"Nah, they're blinder than you, and it's nowhere I can see. Pretty sure the diamonds would stand out against the ash and black." Kestrel voice muffled itself with a yawn. "We're fine."
---
"Better to be quiet. They might be blind, but they have good senses of smell. And hearing." Evangeline chided, pulling up next to Fieris and gently brushing her flank against his. "If I can get close enough, I can hobble it with my magic. Then you two can come in for the kill. Sound good?" she watched the surroundings, ears pricked.

Something moved in the shadows, a serpentine shape slithering through the gloom. Ketucari.

"Get down." she hissed to the others. "We have company." She crouched, pressing her belly against the ash-covered ground, and scented the air. The whole place reeked of ash and death, but there was something familiar... The shadow moved again, and the light caught a flank just right... and there, under the soot, was the unmistakable flash of rosewood fur. Evangeline smiled.

"Nasrin!" she called, softly.

The shadow jumped three feet in the air, twisting around like a startled cat. He glanced around frantically when landing, relaxed when he finally sighted Evangeline's soft blue bulk, and slunk over. Footsteps near silent in the ash-blanketed forest. "Evangeline. It's been some time. I'm glad to see you well."
---
Fieris leaned into Evangeline's touch, twisted to nuzzle her neck, basking in her comforting presence.
He almost missed the strange scent. Dropping just as Eva hissed. Behind him a soft 'thump' announced Kestrel dropping, likely using himself and Eva as a sight guard for his bright markings. A warmth over his tail soon confirmed that.

He squinted through the gloom, at a blurry shape in the mist and ash. A flash of rosewood. He lifted his head, tasted the air, just as Eva called out to the stranger. They leaped into the air, and Kestrel made an amused sound at Fieris's other flank.

"Well I'll be damned." Kestrel circled around Fieris, trotting to meet the rosewood tow. "It's been ages. You snoopin' around for any good reason?" he asked, voice light and friendly.

Fieris flicked his ears and settled back on his haunches. "You are Nasrin? It's a pleasure to finally meet you."
---
"Kestrel." Nasrin bowed his head respectfully. "I was hunting, actually. It hasn't been easy to find prey since that fire. I was thinking of moving on shortly. ...Ah, and you must be Fieris. Evangeline has told me of you. The pleasure is mine."

"We were doing the same. The fire chased us out of our den, and my cubs are hungry." Evangeline settled back onto her haunches.

"You have cubs? ...I see. Then, would you mind an extra set of paws on your hunting mission? Four can carry more than three." Nasrin flicked an ear.
---
"Your help would be appreciated." Fieris stepped out of Eva's shadow. "We're tracking an aharabos--if that isn't too much trouble for you."

Kestrel trotted past them, nose in the air. "They're tracking their deaths." he corrected. Fieris rolled his eyes.

"We have two Talik elders and Eva's Dasrah. I'm quite certain we can handle a lone aharabos, even if it did survive the fire." Fieris shook his head, flashing Nasrin a helpless smile as he followed after Kestrel, tasting for the musty scent among the ash once more.
---
"I can handle an unruly pig." Nasrin flicked his tail and followed on Kestrel's heels, stalking low to the ground with his ears perked. "...But I'll let you take the lead. I would prefer not to step on any toes."

Evangeline rolled her eyes, chuckling a little. The antics were... a welcome relief, after all that had happened.
---
"I do not think you will be the one stepping on toes, friend." Fieris laughed. "Thank you, your help is much appreciated." he sprinted ahead, paws finding the footprints of their prey in a heartbeat. "Here. It's made a trail."

"How convenient." Kestrel droned, now behind him again, and bent to sniff at the track. "Male, I'd guess. And closer than I'd like." he turned, brushing past Fieris. "Let's be ready to shock it and run, I say." he curled his tail over his back and streeeetched. For all his complaining, Fieris laughed, Kestrel certainly seemed at ease. Sure, it felt strange, being so... Cheery and at ease after the blaze, and his lungs still ached... but this was certainly better than moping around. The hunt was on. And that was something he could appreciate.
