Part of a series of posters I done for the ISTD brief 'Type Factory'. Type Factory is a fictional museum of typography for which I had to design an identity along with a raage of promotional material.

For all the Type Factory pieces I used built the 3D environment, lighting and some textures in Maya. I then exported a TIFF still from Maya and brought is into Photoshop and added further textures to make it feel more like an image as opposed to a still from a video. After that, I used various adjustments layers in Photoshop (Hue/Saturation, Brightness/Contrast, Levels, Curves) to add colour (no colour was added in Maya) and to get the tone of the image just right.
If you are new to 3D software, I would definitely recommend using Cinema 4D instead of Maya. Cinema 4D is FAR easier to use and you can get great results far quicker. ThHere are tons of great Cinema 4D tutorials up on YouTube which will show you how to create 3D type.
