Description:

This is a Sailor Saturn garage kit from www.e2046.com . She's my third kit, but my fifth figurine.

This is NOT an easy kit. Sailor Saturn is easy, her glaive was not. The ends didn't fit together because of a combination of flash and a short shot. In the end I just cut off the connections and done a combination of super glue and hot glue. The hot glue is the farthest thing from neat and tidy, but I don't really have enough experience to fix it properly myself lol. Maybe one day I'll give it another go?

My biggest issue with this kit was patience. I think I got impatient and never let the paint and sealer dry long enough. That lead to some parts sticking together while trying to assemble them, and some glue tearing off. Some of it I fixed, others were far better off being left alone. On Saturn herself I found my biggest challenge to be her laces. I done them with a tooth pick.

The base is a 6" mirror purchased from Michaels for $4. I then added white, blue and green acrylic paint and a gloss sealer, and then added hot glue in the shape of icicles. I then painted over those with white acrylic paint.

If you knew my original base idea, I gave up VERY quickly when I realized how small the line of glue was in my gun, and how hard it would be to shape. Also how quickly I was running out of glue XD. I tried premaking them on my cutting matte, but it was nearly impossible to remove them without ripping the pieces.

Oh ya, this entire kit was BRUSH PAINTED :faint:

You should look into "pinning". All you need is a pin vice which you can get from a craft store and about 18 guage wire from a tool store. The problem I had with my Saturns glaive was the end would keep breaking off because the resin was so thin so I stuck a pin in between the parts and used some super glue and now that's how I put all my pieces together. She looks great btw, neat idea for the base!

Yees pinning. I don't have the tools for it at the moment. To be honest I think her glaive was waaaaaaaaaaay beyond pinning. The short shotting was on the end and it was nearly impossible to put together. Pinning probably would have broken off more of the staff end. I thought of perhaps using part of a needle, but I don't know how I would have put the hole in the staff ends to do it lol.

Glad you like her :D

Aren't these kits kind of expensive? I was wanting to try it, but it was like 39$ just for the kit. Is there a cheaper way to pick up this hobby?

She looks so good! Probably cause the brush painted touch! :D

$39 is actually pretty cheap for a kit. You can find them cheaper on Ebay, but if they're from Thailand chances are the quality is REALLY bad and you'll spend more time and money on fixing it than if you dished out the extra $20+ dollars. When you see a cheap kit it's more than likely a bootleg. They're normally called recasts, but this makes them cheaper. An official kit costs hundreds of dollars sometimes.

Glad you liked my Saturn and Chibi Moon =)

What color did you use for her skirt and such? i'm having a horrible time finding the right color paint :(

It's actually a mix between the FolkArt brand acrylic paints Metallic Amethyst (#654) and Red Violet (#636). It's pretty shiny as it is, but I also used a glossy varnish on her clothing as well. It really made the purple pop.

I was hoping to give her a dramatic effect with the base. Almost like she had just attacked, and it had grown so cold that her surroundings had turned to ice. Glad it looks close to that :XD:

AW, I hope you got my note and weren't too intimidated. This is really no different than painting... you just have to do a lot more layers of paint, and the details go on something 3D instead of 2D. Just requires a lot of patience.
