Ithaqua Oil Painting

Several years back I did a whole bunch of card art for Fantasy Flight's Call of Cthulhu CCG. I did them digitally, but for a couple of pieces I went back and redid them in Oils. Of course, I think they looked a lot better that way!

So this is Ithaqua, a Great Old One from Lovecraft's Cthulhu Mythos (the character was actually a Derleth creation, an author who contributed greatly to the Lovecraft world). He's basically the Yeti from legend. This painting won an award for Best Horror in the Dragon*Con art show the year I displayed it there. The original version was both a card and the back cover for the Arkham Horror board game. (You can tell the difference on this one easily - the original has him holding a severed head.)

Thanks! If you like a good Lovecraft-related story, you might want to try my graphic novel "Casefile: Arkham", a detective-noir take on Lovecraft. www.amazon.com/Casefile-ARKHAM…

They probably do, yes!

What I said was a quote from the game Elder Signs Omens. Well it's only part of the quote but one of the heroes say it when you beat Ithaqua.

I thought that sounded quote-ish! ;)

It was I just did not remember the rest. ;)

Hmm...Judging by those skulls, he's actually a lot smaller than most of the ancient ones. Maybe we can take him.

He's sort of a Yeti type. I don't know - he doesn't look like small-arms fire would even tickle him. Tell you what - you go first! ;)

(Loads bazooka) Who said anything about small-arms?

(Loads howitzer) Just need it to hold still...
This the picture they use in Elder Sign: Omens. Haven't faced him yet. He's supposedto be tthe hardest one.

He's certainly the coldest! :D

This is awesome!
I like the fact that it's really a real painting and not done with the computer

Thanks! I love real paint - I wish I was faster at it and able to make a living doing more of it.  Someday…!

Real paint looks the best, that's why i never use the the computer for painting. but i do make some drawings for it.

Good painting but if i may add, his eyes are said to be red.
Actually he's the Wendigo not the Yeti.
