Greetings my dear friends and fellow artists! Welcome to the Volume 5 of my Show Your Colors feature!!
Inspired in a feature of the same name that I made for the Curated Feature - Contest by @projecteducate, this new initiative consists of promoting colorful artworks that reflect positive themes such as love, friendship, hope, care and protection of the nature and our planet, fidelity and more.
Monthly will be published a volume featuring a maximum of 10-20 artworks selected by me from any category (Traditional, Digital, Fan Art, Anime / Manga, Photography, Photomanipulation and more) according to the theme selected for the occasion (or a mix of several themes) and some of these editions also will include a morality message related to the same. Popular and little-known artists can get more visibility of their art and learn about the topics discussed.
That is to say, it is not only of exhibiting color as a carrier of expression, affectivity, symbolism and multiple languages that the artist uses to express his inner feelings, emotions and desires without words, using mainly his sensitivity, boldness and all the resources that his environment offers to create. Beyond that, the true intention of this project is to raise awareness about those things that are vitally important for to have a healthy and happy life without harmful vices or the typical social prejudices. We must learn to live in harmony with others and provide support to people who need it in very difficult time.
Without more to say, enjoy!
Green is the prime color of the world -
The Earth Planet is our home. It is a very beautiful, vast and unique place that is mainly characterized by hosting a wide variety of living organisms (humans, animals, plants, fungi, bacteria, protozoa, archeas), natural patterns, ecosystems and many other incredible things that we cannot find elsewhere . But it didn't look exactly the same million years ago.
Since its formation, Earth has continuosly undergone many significant changes through different natural process (such as solar radiation, climatic changes, glaciations, meteorite impacts, volcanic eruptions, earthquakes) to renew itself and remain habitable. Many species evolved to adapt to new living conditions; while others became extinct. Although human activities have also influenced a lot because we take resources from nature to have a healthy and sustainable life.
The wealth of the nation is its air, water, soil, forests, minerals, rivers, lakes, oceans, scenic beauty, wildlife habitats and biodiversity… that's all there is. That's the whole economy. That's where all the economic activity and jobs come from. These biological systems are the sustaining wealth of the world. - Gaylord Nelson
They are essential to maintain life on the planet, both for animals, plants and humans . And according to their durability, they are classified as RENEWABLE and NON-RENEWABLE.
RENEWABLE RESOURCES are those that can be renewed naturally at a faster rate than that of human consumption or by applying techniques for their production that do not negatively affect the environment, so they are practically inexhaustible. All of the above are renewable, but that does not mean that we should use them indiscriminately .
There is a pleasure in the pathless woods, There is a rapture on the lonely shore, There is society, where none intrudes, By the deep sea, and music in its roar: I love not man the less, but Nature more. - George Gordon, Lord Byron
For example, WATER can be a renewable resource ONLY when we use and conserve it in a responsible way, avoiding contaminating it with chemical waste and garbage that alter its composition, turning it into a liquid toxic to living beings, or throwing it away without care when we think it is not. we need it. WATER is extremely important since it allows our body to carry out the biological processes necessary for its proper functioning; it prevents us from becoming dehydrated, it is essential in our diet and hygiene and it is used to generate electrical energy in all the world .
Furthermore, the AIR we breathe comes from plants, which transform solar energy into chemical energy through Photosynthesis to create organic substances such as the oxygen that animals and humans need to live. For this reason, all the forests and jungles of the world are considered the lungs of the planet and we must take care of them so that our air source does not run out.
A nation that destroys its soils destroys itself. Forests are the lungs of our land, purifying the air and giving fresh strength to our people - Franklin D. Roosevelt
However, petroleum, coal and natural gas are NOT RENEWABLE because their formation involves a geological process of thousands of years, compared to how long it takes for a tree to grow and bear fruit. Are very limited resources that are used in the production of chemicals and useful objects for our daily activities. But they can also cause very serious and irreparable damage to animals, ecosystems and ourselves. Indeed, this is one of the main causes of the alarming contamination of the soils, water and air that the planet is suffering right now .
POLLUTION OF THE ENVIRONMENT IS A PROBLEM OF EVERYONE
For years we have been abusing the natural resources of our planet and misusing them not only to cover our basic needs, but also for selfish reasons since we are an extremely materialistic and consumerist society. Now we are more interested in enjoying a life full of luxuries or following the fashions of the moment, that we have not noticed all the damage that we are causing with actions.
Many species of animals became extinct (and others are in the same danger) due to people who hunt them indiscriminately for fun, to dress in their skins or as a trophy, not only because of the need to feed on them. Furthermore, extreme cutting and burning of trees has led to the destruction of their homes and of many other green areas that may never be recovered.
Water and air, the two essential fluids on which all life depends, have become global garbage cans. - Jacques-Yves Cousteau
Another major problem that promotes and worsens pollution is OVER-POPULATION. Today we are twice as many inhabitants on the planet as 50 years ago, which implies that we need more space, houses, food, vehicles and more natural resources to support new generations. More forests and animals are sacrificed in the process, we produce more garbage that will end up on the ground or in the sea and the air is increasingly polluted by the constant emissions of chemical gases from the thousands of vehicles that we use to transport ourselves daily
Surely you have heard of GLOBAL WARMING ... and no, it is not a myth as some think. The planet's temperature increases considerably because the atmosphere cannot eliminate these toxic gases, causing very drastic climatic changes, the melting of the Earth's icy poles and respiratory problems in animals and people. Our planet is slowly being consumed by our carelessness. And when we realize our mistake, when we really want to do something to change things ... it will be too late.
UNLESS someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It's not. - Dr. Seuss in The Lorax
The Lorax is a literary work written by Dr. Seuss that perfectly shows the destructive power of humans and teaches us the importance of protecting the environment. The main antagonist is The Once-ler, a young inventor who discovers a lush forest of Truffulas trees and begins cutting them down to knit his Thneed (a garment with various uses), ignoring the warnings of the Lorax (Guardian of the forest). who speaks for the trees) to stop. His selfish actions caused the destruction and contamination of the region, forcing the animals to find another place to live. The Lorax disappeared into the sky, leaving a rock with the word UNLESS engraved on it and the Once-ler deeply regrets what he did. .
Several years later, the Once-ler finally understands the Lorax's message on the rock and tells to a boy what happened to the trees. Then he gives him the last Truffula seed and motivates him to cultivate a forest, hoping that the Lorax and his friends will return. At the film, the boy (Ted Wiggins) informs the citizens of Thneedville about this environmental catastrophe and also make they interested in the trees, gradually recovering the Truffula forest .
Undoubtedly, this is a beautiful story that we should all know and that inspires us to care for our planet with love to avoid its destruction .
Other films and documentaries focused on the protection of nature, pollution and other environmental problems caused by the humanity:
THE EARTH NEEDS US. LET'S CONTRIBUTE TO ENVIRONMENT SANITATION
Our goal is not just an environment of clean air and water and scenic beauty. The objective is an environment of decency, quality and mutual respect for all other human beings and all other living creatures - Gaylord Nelson
We cannot deny that the current condition of the Earth, caused by environmental pollution and global warming, is quite compromising and worrying. However, it is not yet too late to repent of our bad actions and reflect on these problems, to change our way of thinking and habits, and start contributing with the sanitation of Mother Earth from now on. So, the next generations will be able to enjoy a cleaner, healthier and more beautiful planet .
Today, there are many ecological organizations that have been dedicated to the protection and conservation of biodiversity on the planet for several years. On April 22, 1970, the US Senator and environmentalist Gaylord Nelson held the first environmental rally (involving hundreds of universities, schools, and communities) with the goal of creating a common awareness of overpopulation, pollution, conservation of biodiversity and other environmental concerns to protect the Earth.
In response to this, the United States government created the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and new environmental legislation, which inspired governments in other countries to do the same. In this way, environmental organizations such as Greenpeace, Friends of the Earth, Bird Life International, World Wide Fund for Nature and many others emerged. And more later, April 22 was designated as International Earth Day .

We've only got 1 earth -
Every day there are more nature lovers and people interested in the cause . You can also contribute your grain of sand without spending a lot of money, you just need to be highly motivated to do it and do your best .
These are some of the things you can do at home on your own, or with the support of your family, friends and members of the community in which you live:
- Recycling. Separate trash into various containers for plastic, cans, paper and organic waste to facilitate the work of waste pickers in your community. You may not know it, but these items can be recycled and eused for other purposes. For example, organic waste is often used as compost for crops and homegardens.
- Use eco-friendly or cloth bags when shopping at the supermarket. This reduces the production and use of plastic bags that are harmful to the environment.
- As noted above, automobiles produce many toxic gases that pollute the air. To avoid this, it is recommended that you use public transport (trains, buses) more frequently, or go cycling if you have one. Bicycles do not pollute the environment in any way and help you maintain good physical health.
- Turn off the tap when you don't need it. For example, when you brush your teeth or lather your hands. And when you need to do the laundry, try filling the washer to spend as little water as possible. In this way you can save a lot of water.
- Unplug all electrical devices you are not currently using and switch the bulbs for energy saving bulbs to save energy.
- Create a family garden. You can grow your own food at home, only if you have the right space and everything you need. This is a safe way to get fresh and healthier food for your family, considering that most agricultural products are altered with chemicals.
- For each tree felled, you must plant three. Remember that trees give us oxygen and food, and help clean the air.
- Provide environmental education at schools. We should not wait until children are older to teach them how to protect the environment. It is VERY IMPORTANT that they learn to do it from a very young age so that they obtain good habits and do not repeat our mistakes in the future.
Pass this valuable knowledge on to your children, younger siblings, nephews, students (if you are a teacher at a school) and to other children in your community .
And if possible, get involved in community and green projects that promote care and love for the environment. Protect endangered animals by avoiding indiscriminate hunting and help find a friendlier home for those in need. Or you can even volunteer in ecological organizations such as Greenpeace and others in your country that request the help of people for their projects. Everything counts!
Now that you already know what is necessary on how to protect the environment, you should start doing it now. Don't wait for things to get too complicated to do something because it is not the idea and you will regret not having acted before. Remember that we only have ONE Earth ... Animals and plants can live perfectly without us, but not vice versa. Furthermore, their life is as important as that of humans and we must give them the respect and love they deserve .
