I've just returned from a glories week in the city of Saint Petersburg (formerly Leningrad, formerly Petrograd, formerly Saint Petersburg) with many photographs to clog up your message boxes.

I've started with this photograph of Ploshchad Lenina (Lenin Square) in front of the Finland Station where Vladimir Lenin gave his first speech on his return from exile in April 1917.

Though I do not like Lenin all to much I do admire Russia's historical representation of the former Soviet Union, it is very nationalistic.

Ploshchad Lenina is romanised Cyrillic for Lenin Square.

It's a shame the Soviet Union turned away from what Lenin got it to fight for.
