For the SAME reason North Korea and the Russian FSB take attention-seeking gadflies like these and 'cap' them in their respective basements!...

National interests...

The Rosenbergs are the REASON Russia got a golden ticket to the dance of the nuclear 'cold war'!

There is a fine line between being a whistleblower and a Traitor.

Betraying the world's most aggressive empire by exposing its crimes? Sounds like a most moral thing to do.

It depends on what they reveal.

War crimes that go unpunished. And the attitude of the U.S. empire towards the heroes and heroines who reveal them.

Snowden is the reason why we know that the NSA is spying on all of us. Manning and Assange exposed military corruption and war crimes including the murders of innocent civilians.

Well, it's a unpleasant fact that no country can make the advantage through 'dirty shadow actions' that make em equal level with all other who do so. In a perfect world, all people can be nice and fair but unfortunally we didn't have this ressource. So okay, countrys have to do some 'criminal' things to survive in fact - it wasen't ther intention, but they didn't had the choice. So far, so good. So what is the moralic problem of our time? I would give a spot on the acceptance of bad concealed actions. Some nations and politicans at all seem to grow up in a world where 'everything goes', and so they do. Sloppy intelligence like CIA didn't cover ther operations or conceal them - why should they? It's worldwide accepted that America did illegal terror strikes to other countrys and noone cares. We saw it since 30 years on TV and cheer with the proud SEAL-terrorists killing civilians and other countrys industrial capacity to overtake them. And in the 2k's we have very critical movies where America is the evil oppressive system, and all it does was to harmonise us with the fact how America does ther jobs. Ever read a Tom Clancy-Thriller? He describe America as a corruptet, fat, incappacicatet and sloppy-in-all-positions state - even they are the 'good ones'. After 9/11 he was ordered to the White House as 'someone who knows how the things work' xDDD Yeah, a fictional writer who think America is a obsolete state surely knows how the things really works. Great joke dear White House. Buuut, his books are still sold, his reality is still acceptet - America is evil, retard and Imperialistic, but all also know - they are teh good ones. WTF?!

Without such a calm dude with Putin in charge America has found itself in a worldwar with Russia, China, Arabian nations(finally excluding Israel), Corea and half of Europe. Someone still guess they will have a chance? Sure, they're stupid and have nuclear weapons. Noone will win, cause America is the only state(okay ... and Israel, but not in this scenario) arrogant enough to think nuclear weapons only affect others.

About whistleblowers - i agree with Galaxy-Fighter about Snowden, that placed idiot. Putin just laughed about the lil' CIA dude who just gives tactical info if Langley gives ther okay for it. #sloppyintelligence
So how the future will look like? Will America do the China-thing? Live in ther own uneffected reality? This wouldn't work with open borders ... and very much not with imperialistic tendencys. Really ... actual news make me feel like i had to be a very very easy person to understand the bullshit they told me. The problem is - this people really belive in what they said. I would prefer to life in a world where this people fool me, manipulate me. This i could just ignore.

Like the government says, "You have nothing to fear if you have nothing to hide."  Projecting, much?

I'm a bit older than the average Deviant Art user.  I remember a time when Russian dissidents came to America for asylum.

Who would have thought . . .

Snowden actually isn't that much of a whistleblower, actually. Information about NSA, spyign on us, could have been easily found. I  lughed my ass of, when he was declared a national hero, when people like him, are in nimber of hunderds all over the internet. Nobody believes them though....

Every government has its secrets. The US is just one of few where the whistleblowers aren't killed as a result of their actions

Might want to change that to "the American government". I most certainly don't agree with how these assholes in charge of things have handled all of this in any way, shape, or form. I'm also far, FAR from the only one here who feels that way. ;)

So yeah. It would be appreciated if you'd not try to lump myself and my many, MANY like-minded fellow Americans in with our unfortunately screwed up government.

I mean, yeah... US has tons of its faults, but so do every other country. It's just unfair to point all out fingers at US only because there are a whole lot of countries out there that are arguably far worse than the US, including the countries the US has invaded and bullied such as Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, etc.

While I think Assange shouldn't have released certain pieces of the material that he did release (like that confidential stuff that ended up putting people's lives in danger), I think Manning and Snowden were just trying to make a point about the flaws of our democracy, and that they should be improved. I think Snowden should return to the US to face a trial, where he can continue to argue his points and hopefully be found not guilty.
