But don't worry Obama has told me that this will be nothing like Vietnam, or Iraq, or Afghanistan.

It'll probably be more like Kosovo. It's a horrible situation, the group that offers the most stable post war Syria is the government and they're certainly not the "good guys", the rebels are a mixed bag with Islamists by far the more effective and coherent fighting forces. The only real good thing is what's happening to the Kurds, although they are having to deal with Islamist pressures. The most similar situation is Afghanistan in terms of probable outcomes, the Americans fund the people fighting their enemy, without considering that a lot of them hate the US just as much and will probably cause problems if they win.

America is always at war with someone, i'm still confused why no one attacked first (apart from 9/11 although thats a matter i wont go into)

I guess Kerry was exaggerating how terrible Vietnam was. Because in most of the photos of him, he's smiling.

Well, sort of pointless except now we've got drones.  Back then they didn't have those yet.

Sure we did. We started using UAV's as far back as the 1950's. They weren't as sophisticated as they are now.

I'm not a huge weapons buff... where would you draw the line to distinguish between a drone and a guided missile? ^^;

A drone is a remote controlled aircraft that ISN'T suppose to blow up.

Ah okay, and okay correct me if I'm wrong but a guided missile could also be remote controlled but does blow up?

A missile is really a "one time" use piece of equipment. Like bullets.

:salute: Thanks.  Weapons can be both beautiful and terrible.  Any example of human ingenuity and engineering prowess is impressive and military hardware is no different.

Another thing: The use of those UAVs was suppose to be very wide spread so that they're often ultilized as practice target by pilots and AA crews. And the term "unmanned" was used to refer to any food item without meat, which was everyday's meal for people during that era.

I don't think they're "pointless" at all.
At the very least, they still serve the point of TESTING NEW WEAPONS.
Also, to cause the same trauma in each generation, so they can be brainwashed more easily! :shh:

Yes, it's unfortunate that people don't actually realize what's happening in Syria. If evey U.S. citizen watched this (www.youtube.com/watch?v=_gqC_C… all the way through, most people would be inclined to do something. At least those who have hearts. I though the holocaust quote "never again" actually meant something.

Useless? Syria has broken international law and if Vadimir doesn't see that he is a moron. The UN should be the ones handling this but if every one doesn't agree they can't, and that make the UN useless.

It's point less to go into Syria. The only reason the United States has is that the Syrian government used chemical weapons on their own people. It is more a possibility the rebels used it; because the rebels are being backed by Al-Queada. The could easily supple chemical weapons to the Rebels to fight Assad's regime. The Syria government knows if they did use it, it gives the United States a reason to intervene. Not to mention the UN has under gone an investigation to see who used the chemical weapons, they won't get results for 3 more weeks now.
